Hop bag to filter when racking?

Hi guys For my first two brews I went to a secondary FV. After a fair amount of reading I'm thinking that for my 3rd I won't bother. What about this as an idea? Massive hop bag laid in to filter out any crap. Any problems with it? at 8:33

Grainmaster etc Vs 3 tier system

Been checking out lots of vids on the Grainfather and I think it's for me. There's still a lot of skill involved and as I DIY a lot around the house, I can't be arsed to do the same here. Just got to find a good deal! Thanks for all the help!

Grainmaster etc Vs 3 tier system

Just a standard hob. Problem is that I wouldn't have much space above the pot as the extraction fan on our cooker is really low. Plus, I'd like to do it in the shed/man cave!

Grainmaster etc Vs 3 tier system

So if I wanted to go for the standard 3 tier setup what kind of electric boiler would I need? I'd like to be able to brew 20 litre batches.

Grainmaster etc Vs 3 tier system

Yep, I think this is the big concern. At some point it will die.

Grainmaster etc Vs 3 tier system

Thanks guys. Does the Karlstein come with everything I need or will I have to buy a cooler etc?

Grainmaster etc Vs 3 tier system

I don't really fancy something which is automated and beeps when hops are due to be added etc. KInd of takes the fun out of it I think. But I also don't want to build things from scratch as A) I have have time B) I have the finances to make life a little easier. Would the Klarstein fit the bill...

Grainmaster etc Vs 3 tier system

I'm new to homebrewing and have only just started on the kits - I've got the bug! . I'm trying to educate myself on all grain possibilities and was wondering what system I'd need. I'd like to have a system in the future that can handle 40 pints as I don't have much time to do small batches. Kids...

    Youngs American IPA

Really strange, tried a couple tonight and they were pretty good. Shared them with some friends and they were well impressed. I compared it to the Punk IPA and there's really not much in it. I would say that my Youngs is not as carbonated and that has a big part to play - carbonation obviously...

Is it your first bottle from this batch?

    Youngs American IPA

I'm not sure if carbing and conditioning are the same thing but I tested one today 10 days after bottling. Mixed feelings really. It's carbonated and has a decent aroma but it's very bitter - I'm used to very bitter beers. It has this bitter twang at the end which stays in the mouth a little...

    Youngs American IPA

I'm in no rush at all. Will be happy to leave it for longer if it improves the quality of the beer!

    Youngs American IPA

Thanks guys, it's interesting. I thought that the dry hopping period was included in that fermentation period ( eg 7 days fermentation plus another 7 with dry hop) but you're saying ferment for roughly 2 weeks then dry hop for 5 or six days?

    Youngs American IPA

Thanks guys. It's just that I'm 8 days into the Youngs Amber kit and wondering when to dry hop. I dry hopped the IPA after 2 weeks but even that was a fraction too soon. When you leave it in the cold for a couple of days does it have to be a steady temp? I could leave it in the garage but I...

    Youngs American IPA

I'm just wondering, is it always better to leave your brew in primary for longer than recommended. From what I've read, people seem to be saying that leaving a brew for 1 week after fermentation actually does some good. Does it clear the brew?

    Which bottle rinser?

Hi All Seen a few vinators but such mixed reviews from users I'm just wondering which one is the long term solution. Don't want to bother with a cheapy option.

    Youngs American IPA

A few things struck me whilst brewing my first ever. Why dont we have some sort of filter on inside of the 2nd FV (or 1st) where the spigot is attached in order to collect the sludge? Vineator might be useful as with labels falling off everywhere it's possible for bits of paper to end up in the...

    Youngs American IPA

Day 21 - I removed one of the infusers (rest were at the bottom of FV) Day 22 - Bottle my first ever homebrew with final gravity of something like 1.004. I guess I better hope that that was the final gravity! So if I understand correctly, I store them at room temp (will be 18 or 19) out of...

    Youngs American IPA

Thanks guys. I've no problem with waiting, it's just that the hops went in last monday night at 11pm ish. So we're getting towards 1 full week dry hopped. From what I've read, any longer than a week and it can get 'grassy'. Thing is, at least two of the infusers I used for the dry hop are...

    Youngs American IPA

I've just done another reading, I'm somewhere between 1.004 and 1.005. I was planning on getting the bottling done tomorrow after work as everyone will be out. I mean, surely I don't have to wait another 3 days for this one do I? Tomorrow evening it'll be precisely 21 days fermenting at 22deg.
