    Tonic Water

Saw the video from TMM and I'm interested in trying it. I keep a keg of carbonated water on tap for nights when I'm not drinking and I'd much rather it had a bit more flavour and I quite like tonic on its own (or maybe with a splash of bitters). TMM's delivery charges mean I'll be waiting...

    What did you brew today?

I'd imagine Voss would work fine in a stout if fermented at standard ale temps as it tends to be quite clean. At higher temps it does have that orange thing going on which I'm not sure about. A chocolate orange stout could be interesting. Do you have issues with clarity in the pale ales...

    What did you brew today?

I've just logged on to say that I've just finished brewing an oatmeal stout as well! Mine's going in a 12l keg and was my own recipe (though I think it's fairly run of the mill) 66% maris otter 14% oats 9% chocolate malt 7% crystal 4% roasted barley 28g EKG @ 30 mins 19g EKG @ 10 mins Was...

Has anyone ever used the Beersmith Burton water profile?

I brewed David Heath's ESB recipe a few months ago. Just checked on brewfather and my water additions were Mash: Gypsum 17.74g Calcium Chloride 3.02 Epsom salts 8.19 Bicarb 6.25 Sparge: Gypsum 9.46g Calcium Chloride 1.61g Epsom salts 4.37g Bicarb 3.33g Sulfate:Chloride was around 8:1 Easily...

    Juniper berries

I did an IPA with juniper, coriander and orange peel replacing the flameout hops. The beer was decent but you couldn't really taste the "gin" additions. Not sure whether I need to up the quantities or try adding them in the fermenter.

    Water Chemistry

Just had a play in brewfather with a recipe I'd got saved as a 23l batch. Changed it to 46l with a 23 top up and recalculated the water additions. It did scale things up but not in the linear fashion I expected. Gypsum addition went from 7.8g to 9g for the same target profile so not sure...

    Water Chemistry

There's a fermenter top up option in the brewing equipment section. No idea if it'll adjust the water treatment additions but I assume it would.

    Hydrometer Readings

I'm amazed by folk who have used the same hydrometer for years. I've broke 3 this year so far!

    Keg Newbie questions #1 - 3 : Transfer; Fridge?

This reminds me of getting my first keg. Thought it was the best thing ever but was completely baffled by it. Good news is that it's actually really easy. 1. I've not primed in a keg but what you are suggesting sounds fine. I'd suggest purging the keg with CO2 before filling to reduce the...

    Kveik

Did a brew with dried lutra on Wednesday evening. Checked it this morning and it's fermented down to 1.006. Sample was pretty clear and clean tasting. Going to cold crash for a couple of days the keg onto gelatine and burst carbonate. Expecting it to be drinkable and crystal clear by...

Has anybody already started to have problems with CO2 supply or price hikes

Managed to get a refill on Friday. 6.25kg of CO2 for £12. Can't really complain at a £2 price increase. Not sure if the are dealing with new customers but it's Master Gas in Ashton if anyone near Manchester is struggling.

    Kveik

I use Voss as a easy alternative that doesn't need temperature control but I've never had it stall. I just leave it on the counter and and just get a reasonably clean fermentation at room temp (around 18 - 25°c in summer). Usually finishes up in around 3 days. I must start harvesting Voss as...

    Brulosophy Home Brew Survey 2021

I'm not saying those who do bottle don't take brewing seriously. I know there are quite a few folk on here that don't keg and I'm confident they take the hobby at least as seriously as I do and no doubt produce excellent beers. Neither is better or the right way - it's just what suits the...

    Brulosophy Home Brew Survey 2021

I saw the figures for those kegging and was slightly surprised. That said, the data is going to be biased toward the sort of brewer that is interested in brulosophy which, I think, is more likely to be taking the hobby a bit more seriously and will therefore be more likely to have made the move...

A bit of a bargain, but how does this work

Might depend on which model Klarstein you have but I have both a 35l brewzilla and a klarstein (the 30l Maischfest I think) and the lids aren't the same size. Annoyingly, there's only a few mm in it.

Not enough yeast - what's my best option?

Morning, Just put started the mash on today's brew, went to get the yeast out and found I hadn't got what I wanted. Brew is 23l of pilsner, intended OG is 1.040 and I was going to pitch 2 packs of MJ bohemian pilsner and ferment under pressure. Turns out I've only 1 pack! The beer is for a...

    Sodastream gas for serving

Cheers all. I've ordered 2 bottles and will make sure I can fit it well before the day so I can order more if it doesn't go well. The adaptor I've bought is the "deluxe" one from the malt miller which has a pin to make things easier. No idea what the pin does to achieve this - I just took the...

    Sodastream gas for serving

Morning all, I've got a big birthday coming up and I'll be providing my own beer for the party. Probably 3 or 4 kegs depending on how much brewing I can get done between now and then. I've been thinking about the logistic and I'm not keen on lugging about my gas canister about so I've ordered...

    Kveik

In stock at The Malt Miller now - just popped up on my Facebook feed. Definitely interested in trying it but it's £8.99 for an 11g pack and they seem to be suggesting 2 packs for a 5 gallon batch. Have Omega still not got their heads around kveik pitch rates or is this what will actually be...

Brewzilla 3.1.1 fine mesh screen for malt pipe

I've got the fine mesh bottom somewhere but I've never used it. No instructions included in mine either. Youtube helped me get it set up.
