Clean in place - mounting the pump

I can do Star San - it doesn't need to be sterile as this is all up to the point of boil, but if it avoids mould and I would likely have mixed some up to clean the fermenter - so why not!

Clean in place - mounting the pump

Hi I have a 3 tier, all grain system, largely linked with standard 15mm copper tubing and am wondering if I can remove the few flexible tubes I do have, and attempt to clean in place (CIP) to simplify things a bit. My pump is one of these LINK which I have been using for years (since 2010)...

Looking for a how to guide for the Klarstein system

Definitely go for the 35L I reckon. The issue with mine is that it is long and tall so there is a temperature differential and that the controller allows the temperature to vary by 3 deg C - which is not accurate enough. I believe the 35L version is wider. I now use mine as a boiler and have...

Drip tray on front of Fridge

Currently it is suspended with thin nylon rope from the taps. The trouble is the front of the fridge is curved.

    refractometer

Hi I don't like the amount of beer I waste using a hydrometer but the reviews on Amazon for the refractometers it sells are often poor. Are refractometers any good and what is a good one? Can anyone advise me? Cheers Pete

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

Nah - didn't work. I couldn't get any mixture of buttons to do anything. Good idea though.

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

I did ask Klarstein but they said it couldn't - but I will definitely give that a go. Thank you!

No - the Maischfest doesn't have a PID like (I believe) the Guten does. Instead it has a simple controller which cannot be adjusted/programmed.

    Inkbird orAL 200

Anyone know what an orAL 200 error code refers to? It happens if I have a probe plugged in or not. I have an ipb-16.

    Klarstein Maischfest Mash Kettle?

I have returned to a 3 pot brew - HLT with PID (wall mounted Inkbird IPB16), cooler box mash tun and the Maischfest as a boiler. The Maischfest varied too much in temperature - the controller (not a PID) varied down to 3 deg C below the temperature you set it to and my 25L version had too...

Drip tray on front of Fridge

Hi I have 4 taps on the front of my larder fridge (and 4 cornies within the fridge). How best to I secure a drip tray, and what are the best drip trays to use? Cheers

    3 weeks in a fermenter

I guess I am also leading back to the age old "to fine or not to fine, that is the question". If I am leaving the beer in the fermenter an extra week, that is a potential opportunity to fine the beer so it clears entirely during that week. But I am uncomfortable taking a liquid that has been...

    3 weeks in a fermenter

yeah - I usually pull the airlock out before cooling. It is only a small hole and the fermenter will be in a fridge which is kept cold anyway, so I think infection is unlikely.

    3 weeks in a fermenter

Does the change in temperature matter? i.e from 5 to 12 deg C.

    3 weeks in a fermenter

Hi I normally leave my all grain beer (bitter, IPA, not lager) in the fermenter at 19 deg C for 2 weeks, reducing to 5 deg C for the last 2 days, then rack into a cornie. Because of my full cornies, I'd like to reduce to 5 deg as normal, then leave it in the fermenter for a further 1 week (so...

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

I guess by stirring, etc, that is the best that can be done. Next time I will buy a bigger one too make it easier.

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

Yeah - I have wrapped mine up a bit in shiny insulation, and it keeps the temperature well. I have the 25l version which is fine but the mash needs a lot of stirring to get the temperature even from top to bottom and limits me to less than 7.25kg grain. I was thinking of replacing the...

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

Does anyone else experience a huge temperature differential between what the Klarstein thinks it is, and the temperature at the base of the mash and at the middle and top of the mash? I'd also be interested in knowing if the Mash kettle with pump (mine is a Maishfest and has no pump) has a...
