Beer and Nostalgia (or Beer nostalgia)

Times are certainly changing, you can get Punk IPA on an easyJet flight now which is nice. Especially when the old offerings were Heineken or some other piss.

Beer and Nostalgia (or Beer nostalgia)

I found an old Double Diamond ashtray whilst working on a building site once, I gave it to my Dad as he always spoke fondly of it. I guess it was from that bygone era when lighting up a cigarette in a pub wasn't on par with lowering your trousers and taking a dump in front of someone. I also...

    (I drink) cheap beer

I tend to just not drink when I run out of homebrew, unless I can get hold of something quite different. We regularly sample beer at work anyway to suss out the competition, we have a monthly sample pack sent in the post.

    i am off the ipa

I've always heard that alcohol is oestrogenic, I'm not sure to what degree as I can't remember the study. I do know that fanatic anti-drinking groups have latched onto the idea and are pushing it hard. It's also an idea that is supported among some body builders and gym goers.

    Wheat beer advice needed

I'd be tempted to add the fruit at as many stages as possible, that way you should get a good depth of flavour from it. For you that would mean primary and secondary. For all-grain it would be end of boil, primary and secondary. Of course it depends on the intensity of flavour that you're after.

    Tiny Rebel Brewfest

Just so that everyone is aware, Tiny Rebel Brewfest is on in Cardiff over the weekend starting Friday 1st of September. There are a ton of great Welsh breweries there, Brewdog will have a bar there too. http://www.tinyrebel.co.uk/news/whos-coming-to-brewfest/ I'll be there, I'll pour you a...

Beer you just don't like/can't drink

Worthington Creamflow and other similar table water and anything with artificial smoke flavour. Equally vomit worthy.

Home Brew Competition - August 17

I may have an entry for this. It depends entirely on how quickly it ferments out though. I should be able to shave some time off of the conditioning time as I have a corny keg setup now.

    Kegging

Cornelius kegs are probably your best bet. I'm not sure if you can get hand pumps for them, but I'd advise against that. Once they have been tapped and had air pumped through them by a hand pump you've got about a week before the beer is passed its best. You can use the cheaper plastic ones...

Some ideas for a lager beer?

Lager doesn't have to take a long time to make. My latest lager turned around in just under a month using the Brulosophy fast lager technique. I put it on corny keg at a 30th Birthday party and nobody could believe it was homebrew. Someone said it tasted like Fosters, I was a little offended...

Apparently they attempted delivery on 2/8/2017 then returned it to the depot damaged.

Home Brew Competition - July 17

Just used my tracking code, the parcel was damaged apparently.... But now the damage has been repaired and it's ready for delivery today :thumb: Not sure how it has been damaged as it had " This way Up" and "fragile" written all over it. Each bottle is bubble wrapped and the whole lot is in a...

A new setup for the monthly comps

I don't think that keeping the same judging format whilst making each month open to any style would put people off.Highest scoring beers win, regardless of category. No one expects BJCP standard feedback/judging nor should they. That doesn't make our HBF judges feedback less valuable. They...

I'm a little late sending mine out, will you still include them if they make it by next weekend?

Home Brew Competition - July 17

In my opinion, beer judging is subjective enough as it is, without adding in the factor of people's style preferences. It's entirely unfair to put an amazing IPA against an amazing brown ale only to have the judge pick the Brown simply because they don't like hoppy beer. I'll make a...
