    Ali Express again

One tip, some sellers offer free shipping, but often if you want more than 1item, postage is added, so add them to your basket 1 at a time, they still arrive at the same time in 1 package but no shipping costs.

    Ali Express again

I've had loads delivered since I posted this, still waiting for a few more bits. Most have arrived pretty quickly with no problems. The only exception is the first thing I ordered, a grain basket, it took over a month to get here and it was damaged. I used the Ali Express disputes system which...

    What did you learn today?

I knew all those years of gynecological studies would come in handy one day.

    What did you learn today?

Actually it is!!!! Many old artexers died of asbestosis. Of course it doesn't contain it nowadays, but it used to. The other way it could kill you is if some clumsy pillock puts his foot through it and the ceiling hits you on the head.

    What did you learn today?

Luckily it's the last room to have the ceiling skimmed, so it's not all bad luck!!

    What did you learn today?

Be much more careful when you decide to add more loft insulation.

    Is my fermentation fridge safe?

It's live!!!! The 2 brown wires are live!!! If your controlling it with an inkbird or similar you don't need the thermostat. look on youtube, it shows you how to make it safe. Guy called Chris A does a good one, simple and easy to follow.

    Is this timer Suitable?

Yes, I've read your brewery posts at least twice, my last brew, conditioning in a cornie, is your version of a Czech pilsner. I was tempted to follow you down the burco route, but I already had a high quality 50ltr shiny that I bought years ago with the intention of taking up brewing but never...

    Is this timer Suitable?

Thanks, perhaps I should have mentioned the PID in my original post, DOH! So it's better for the timer to go through the pid?

    Is this timer Suitable?

I'm learning as I go along, would I be able to connect it to a pid that will control the HLT? or does the pid have to be physically turned on? If I can't use it to start the hlt I'm not too bothered, it just might have been handy on occasion.

    Is this timer Suitable?

Yes, Ali Express is legendary for overstating the abilities of their electronic items. I'm hoping there's enough leeway in what they're claiming and what I need just in case. I was kinda hoping someone was going to say, I've got one and it's great.

    Is this timer Suitable?

I'm going to shortly build a control panel (still waiting for some bits) to go with my new boil pot that I'm going to "build" today! I've posted a link to a timer on Ali Express, I've ordered the mains version. Do the experts on here think that the timer would be suitable to start a 2.2 kw...

    What BBQ?

I've got a couple of different size paella burners and 5 different size pans, from feeds 4 to feeds 24. Apart from paella, I've done plenty of curry on the burners. I've even done kippers for breakfast outside the backdoor using a pan and burner, not allowed to cook them in the house.

Just calibrated my 5 litre jug

    Did you calibrate your scales?

    Refractometer

I've got an old one that only does beer, it's much easier to read than the normal one that does wine as well. It's calibrated at 15c. Couldn't tell you where I got it, would've come in some second hand gear at some time.

    Refractometer

You need distilled water to check your refractometer, you can get enough from the steam of your kettle.
  17. hughjamton

    Refractometer

You can use it to see if fermentation has stopped if you're not sure and saves filling a jar and wasting the beer every time. You just need to get consecutive readings, don't really matter what they are. Once the reading the same over a couple of days the fermentation has stopped then you can...

    Large(ish) fermentation chamber.

Has anyone here made a large fermentation chamber by extending a small upright fridge or freezer? I've already converted a tall fridge freezer but I can only get one FV in there. I'm thinking of an insulated chamber with probably a small upright freezer at one end with the door removed, a tube...

Pipeline Original Purple Beer Line Cleaner

Ha Ha, I was just reading your first post thinking you shouldn't run starsan through it and I'd better let you know, then saw your second postacheers. Just another bit of advice, never exceed the dose and never leave it in the pipes for too long. It's safe if you use it correctly but can cause...
