    NEIPA brew/dry-hop advice

I wouldn’t put it down to the sparge. Could be that you dry-hopped a bit early, how long did you dry hop for in the end? I’ve previously dry-hopped after a week, for a week before bottling which worked ok. What was your timeline over all? Did you do 2 weeks fermenting, 2 carbing and 2...

    Upgrading starter kit

I've actually just moved away from an auto-syphon as it was more faff than it was worth IMO. Definitely get more FV's, the bucket type are cheap and will probably come with an airlock too. I just added another FV, that way I can brew roughly once a week.

    50L or 30L all-in-one brew systems

You can brew small batches in a big kettle, but you can't brew a big batch in a small kettle. Currently I use just over half my kettle capacity, but if I want to do a large brew for a special occasion I have the ability to do so.

Starting brewing: vent the brewing container to help the yeast reproduce?

You can, but it will impact on your final beer. My knowledge on this is a little limited but I'd say you could add (sterile) water post-fermentation although it would lower your ABV and probably thin your beer in terms of taste and mouthfeel. Personally I'd chalk it up to experience, work out...

    Temperature for carbonation

Glad everyone said it's ok. Have a bit of a vested interest as I've one that may take a little longer to carb as we've been having some work done so it'll have been sat at about 10 degrees rather than the planned 18. (brew-fridge is already in the works).

How often do you get ...

Twice so far - a maple stout and a cherry IPA, currently getting the kitchen done so all on hold till that's done. Aim after that is 3 or four times a month to try out all the recipes I've got stockpiled for when I'm brewing again, I've currently got the next 5 brews planned.

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

That’s quite a boil-off!! My pan was 1.9l/hr I thought it’d be more but that’s loads, no idea on my height from sea level either. Might just do a test and calculate it as part of the boiler shakedown. Not that boil-off’s a huge issue as I can always add more. Will leave kettle/trub loss at 1L...

First brew day in a while - NEIPA type thing

I’d leave the DH in for a week before bottling it. Not done a NEIPA though so not sure if they demand something different. Sounds like it’s going to be a nice brew.

    Might Stop Brewing Clone Beers...

Do it!! I’ve brewed some beers inspired by those from commercial breweries but they’ve not been ones I’ve had before and are usually not readily available, therefore I’m not comparing my beer to another. If you’re brewing something new then it’s all about appreciating what you have made and not...

    Recommend a Stout recipe

Liking the look of that BrewDog RIS, might have to give that one a go myself - although I seem to be adding to the brew-list quicker than I can make it at the mo!

    Alcohol free beer

It’s ok that one, but as you say, it’s not beer. Also it didn’t quite scale up from it’s small batch predecessor Raspberry Popsicle which is lovely and only occasionally found in bars.

    Long hot summer

We're getting the kitchen done so I have commandeered the old fridge for conversion to a brew-fridge. It'll come in handy as said kitchen work has meant brewing's gone on hold and I've no stock of my own left - have the next 5 brews planned and am aiming for a weekly brew once the house is...

    Recommend a Stout recipe

Is there a stout you like already? How about cloning that as a starting point? I’ve my first stout conditioning so don’t want to recommend that yet as I can’t say how it tastes!

    Equipment Purchase Help

I’m in a similar place as you. I’ve just bought the Klarstein as it seems a good deal and worth it for the complete kit and the benefits it gives over stovetop brewing. There’s an owners thread on here which I looked at too. Can’t say what it’s like to use as it’s still in the post!

    Square bottles

As for the science bit - square bottles would be inherently weaker as the corners are weak points, a cylindrical bottle can better cope with the pressure of carbonation.

    Square bottles

Mine’s in the bottom of the wardrobe - most consistent temperatures in there (18 degrees). It’s been most useful in convincing Mrs M that a brew-fridge in the garage is a good idea.

    Stout Colour

Stumbled across this while trying to work out if there was a difference between a stout and a porter. As Clint says, stout originally just meant strong, so in theory you would have had a stout porter as well as a stout pale. Skip forward a century or two and we associate stout with colour rather...

Disco Forklift Truck Mango Pale Ale

If memory serves it reminded me of Kia-Ora when I had it .... that was a while ago mind, not bought it since either.

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

Just put my order in! Looking forward to its inaugural brew, although I'm gonna have to work out a new profile on BeerSmith - any of you guys have an insight on boil-off rates and the amount of wort you lose below the tap. Also ordered the bits I need to get the brew-fridge running Next up...

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

All that boil-off has gotta go somewhere. Am hoping my current plan is approved, they’ve a sale on so am working that angle too. Added bonus of the new kitchen is I’m re-purposing the fridge for a brew fridge - that’ll be in the garage. Like the idea of outdoor brewing though!
