Need a bit of advice on my first biab smash recipie

Thanks for that. I will order some wirfloc. I have brupaks anti-foam, hopefully that should keep my boil under control. I was thinking maybe taking it a bit lighter with the citra as i have heard that it can be quite over powering? But thats a fantastic guide in terms of timings and weights...

Need a bit of advice on my first biab smash recipie

4-5%, to be honest i am not really that fussed. Yep, I thought about just using maris otter and cascade. Or just using a bit of citra late on. Just a bit confused on times, amounts etc.

Need a bit of advice on my first biab smash recipie

Hello After some great advice on this forum, i have complied my equipment and have a decent enough idea of how to go about my first biab! I am going to do a simple recipe using my 30l boiler, having been given some good advice from a member on this forum i am hoping that i will end up with...

Need some advice on first BIAB!

Thanks for that. Yep, I will go forward with a dunk sparge. Have you made any modifications to your boiler? I was hoping to leave the tap as is, but i have realised that it might need a hop filter, or leave as is and add my hops in muslin bags? Having never done this before i presume that...

Need some advice on first BIAB!

Thanks, thats some really great advice. I think i will sparge as you advised due to only having the 30l boiler. So, to basically sum up your sparge method. You dunk the grains in 4l of 75-80oC water, then hold above the fermenter in a sieve and sparge another couple of litres over the bag...

Need some advice on first BIAB!

Thanks for that, have looked around and a few people recommend them. I am still trying to get my head around just how much water to put in my boiler before adding the grain. I am unsure how to work out the ratios and what my 30l boiler is capable of?

Need some advice on first BIAB!

Hello I have managed to get my hands on a very cheap 30l buffalo boiler, and want to try my hand at something different than brewing from a kit. I want to try and do this with as little hassle/equipment as possible and have one or two questions. 1. I have had a look at lots of biab...

Looking for advice on building a cheap cool box mash tun.

Hello I have been updating my brewing kit recently, having brought a cheap 30l buffalo boiler which i am going to use to get started in all grain brewing. As money is a bit tight, i have decided that the best way will be to build my own mash tun. I have had a look around, ebay etc, at cheap...

    Mash Tun, build or buy?

Yeah i have just had a look at them, they seem to be of a far higher quality. If i am edging towards spending that sort of money i may look for a pre-made mash tun form an online shop. Will have a look tomorrow and see what my best option is.

    Mash Tun, build or buy?

oh right, i will stay away from that one then!

    Mash Tun, build or buy?

hmm. yes i thought the top of a cheaper cool box would have pretty rubbish insulation. I have had a look around for other types of insulation, you are probably right, building foam isnt the easiest stuff to work with. That double bucket system looks interesting, plus cost effective. I have some...

    Mash Tun, build or buy?

Hello I am in the process of sorting out my kit before going in to AG brewing. I have been looking around at mash tuns and i am not too sure which way to go. My funds are a bit limited, so if at all possible i would like to find a cheaper option that shelling out £70 on a cool box style mash...

Need some advice about how to best use a Buffalo boiler

Hello. Having mainly done a fair few kit brews and a very small batch of all grain thanks to clibit's how to guide, i fancy trying something on a larger scale. Browsing ebay last week i stumbled across Nisbets ebay page and brought a reconditioned 30l Buffalo boiler for a very reasonable £35...

Have a go at simple AG

Bottled mine today after 10 days in the fv. I followed the simple recipe, took slightly longer than i expected, but most of that was due to having never attempted an AG brew before. I doubled the quantity, but using an aga gave me a slight issue as the boil was very vigorous and it was difficult...

Have a go at simple AG

This seems like a really good starting point to give AG a try. I have a couple of questions, can i use a standard size fermenting bin, or will there be too much head space between the beer and the lid with such a short brew? I need to buy a stock pot, haven't got too much to spend, and i am not...

How short can a single can kit be Brewed?

Yeah, i might go down to 15 L and see how it is. A hop tea and some dextrose. Not too sure on yeast, will have to see as atm i am having trouble keeping anywhere in my house at a constant temp, other than bloody freezing!

How short can a single can kit be Brewed?

How short can a single can kit be Brewed?

Hello. first post. I have been brewing for the last couple of years and have moved on to the higher quality two can kits as well as doing a few BIAB batches. At the back of my brewing cupboard i have a single can kit of young's harvest larger. Not really a favorite of mine, i was wondering...
