What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Last night I enjoyed a bottle of Fuller’s Golden Pride, which at 8.5% ABV is not to be taken lightly. Sadly the box of eight, which I’d ordered from the brewery on-line shop, arrived with two bottles broken, having been very poorly packed. I am awaiting replies to my complaint.

I just don’t get this aversion to fish finings – isinglass by name. Having attracted the vast majority of protein and yeast particles to itself electrostatically, the clumps so formed drop out of suspension and remain in the belly of the cask, so never get into the belly of the drinker.

Are you planning on using any finings Andy?

    Tuckers Maltings Beerfest

How stupid can I get! Gave my friend the wrong date for the Maltingsfest, so when I rang him to ask why he wasn’t at home, heard that he was on his boat fishing. Fun factor immediately halved, but pressed on and, as my son doesn’t drink beer, sampled 16 or so 1/8th of a pints on my tod. Nice...

    Tuckers Maltings Beerfest

That's why I used to go on the Friday, but my mate couldn't make it this year- some other boozy do! Session beers aren't really my thing anyhow.

    Tuckers Maltings Beerfest

Raring to go to the Maltingfest tomorrow. Being decidedly tottery these days (even before getting there!), I’ve got this new toy to take with me. Overall winner of the show was a 4% Session Pale Ale called Piney Sleight brewed by Cheddar Ales, and I’ve also got the following beers...

    Tuckers Maltings Beerfest

I thought these photos, taken on April 12th 2019, might whet the appetite of anybody thinking of attending the MaltingsFest. Note the quality of the ‘carpeting’ in the tents (and the number of casks on offer!).

Whereabouts Clint? If you are within striking distance you really shouldn't miss it. I hope to be there on the Saturday afternoon.

    Best thing you ever purchased

Brewing related: 1. A copy of ‘The Big Book of Brewing’ by Dave Line the month it was first published in 1974. 2. A week's course at Peter Austin's Ringwood Brewery in November1984 - which cost me £100.

    Heating oil

As summer is approaching it will only be used by the AGA, which does all our hot water and cooking, so should last 8 months or so. When we have the central heating on as well that’s another matter. We probably use about 3000 litres a year for our 4 bedroom stone built old farmhouse, plus an...

    Heating oil

Just bitten the bullet, and ordered 1500 litres heating oil. This is the total capacity of a tiny wagon, which is the only one that can get down our narrow lane. Total cost inc VAT is £1580. 😭

    Heating oil

It's more expensive than Diesel, and definitely wouldn't work in a vapourising AGA burner.

    Heating oil

I live in a very remote spot, and am totally reliant on oil for the central heating and cooking, which we do solely by AGA. It is a worrying situation.
