    British Hops

Cheers @Hazelwood Brewery Just had a look, seems I’m on a similar sort of track. Mine is Golden Promise + Wheat Malt and Carapils. Swap Ernest for harlequin and I’ve also got some harlequin in the late boil addition. I’ll also use CML FIVE as it’ll be a little happier at my cupboard temp...

    British Hops

Hi all, I'm trying to do my next few brews making use of British hops. This weekend will be a golden ale for (hopefully!) some warmer weather round the corner. I've got 70g each of Harlequin, Jester and Olicana, which I think should work nicely together. Anyone any experience with these three...

    Adding Steeped Grains during fermentation

Of course. I’m straight down the tried and tested route of over complicating things. I have lactose in as I used some in the low ABV beer I made a while back. This is a small trial batch anyway, so I may bottle half as is and dose the rest with a bit of lactose to evaluate any difference…...

    Adding Steeped Grains during fermentation

Question borne out of curiosity. I’ve just taken a gravity sample of a pale ale I brewed at the weekend. Aiming for a FG of 1.012 and it’s already down at 1.008. It’s a pale ale with Maris Otter, caramalt, wheat and a bit of crystal. Sample was a lot drier than intended and I’d expected more...

    What did you brew today?

A pale ale I hope will turn out something like Wye Valley Butty Bach. Maris Otter with some Cara Malt, Wheat Malt and a touch of crystal. Fuggles and Goldings through the boil. Bramling Cross hopstand and another dose of BX for a small dry hop. Should be drinkable whatever the result!

    Recipe help

I’d give a second vote to a Red with the ingredients you’ve got.. I’ve just brewed my first using Citra and Columbus for a more hop forward American Red. First taste last night was great. You could do one using the CML C hop mix if you went down this route. Bitter with Bramling Cross is a good...

    What did you brew today?

Thanks for the pointer… I used this thread when I first started fiddling with water profiles and trying to use my hard as nails water. Felt a little out of my depth at the time and seems I read it and missed the key point! All makes sense now. Ive been adjusting with CRS to get CaCO3 in the...

    That sounds great, cheers 👍👍

    What did you brew today?

Yeah I’ve found it a bit of a struggle as my tap water is well over 8. I dose up with a fair bit of CRS but still seem to always be high and needing some lactic acid during the mash..

    What did you brew today?

Shame, appreciate the offer. Whereabouts are you? If you don’t need them and would be happy to post I’d be happy to buy one off you? Rather see money go to someone on here than Amazon…

    What did you brew today?

I’ve got some of the strips, must admit to finding them harder to gauge than I really should! Generally use them alongside pH meter to know I’m in the right ball park 👍

    What did you brew today?

Cheers, useful to know 👍 Definitely get one ordered for next brew day I think.. Just need a pH meter that reads accurately at mash temps now and I’m away 🤣🤣

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

That’s a shame, although I must say I didn’t know.. haven’t had one for years. Spent a great week in Dorset a few years ago drinking badger on cask and the bottles never seemed the same after.. although I could say the same for Tribute!

April 2024 - lager/kolsch/pseudo lager to include European and American styles

I’m bottling a Vienna Lager this eve. Will be very young, but I’ll taste one in a week or so and if drinkable send in..

    What did you brew today?

Think a refractometer will be the next bit of kit I buy. Will they take an accurate reading at mash temps? I.e. sample straight from the mash vessel at c. 65-70 degrees? or does the fact it's such a small sample negate temp worries as it'll soon cool?
