How many litres of home brew have you made 2021.

23l Mosaic pale ale Total 18200l

    Carbonate first or lager/age first?

I would say carbonate first then lager. If you are hooked up to CO2 cylinder just set it at 12psi and forget about it. It'll carbonate and lager at the same time

    All in one vessel.

That's going to be tricky for you. Can't you argue that you need to get a brew on and finished for your birthday?

    Brewday this weekend then?

    All in one vessel.

I have a robobrew, and can't recommend it enough! Very simple to use and makes great beer. In terms of how much it costs to make a pint, it really depends on what you want to make. If you make a simple beer using not many hops you can make a 30p a pint beer, or cheaper. If you go down the NEIPA...

    W34/70 not packing down

Ah OK interesting about the calcium. I didn't measure this time but previously its been about 35ppm. Would you add any in the form of CaCl or gypsum now? I'll bear in mind about the choice of yeast for next time. I was only following the recipe so didn't think too much about it. Thank you...

    W34/70 not packing down

I've got a peroni clone which is cold crashing before kegging, but the yeast doesn't seem to be packing down very well. Its W34/70. I've not had this before, is it normal for this yeast? Anything I can do to help it pack down before kegging? Thinking I'll either pull some across into the keg or...

    Cleaning kegs

Me too, it's cold and it's got alcohol in it, so I don't feel like much is going to grow in it.

    Beer in regulator

If I were you I'd take the regulator apart and check, it really isn't difficult to do and you really don't want beer drying in the regulator as it will cause it to stick. I've got beer in mine before, stripped and cleaned it, dried and back together and still working fine.

    Cleaning kegs

Maybe I'm a little lax, but I only clean my lines when I remember! Maybe once every 6 months! Haven't had a problem yet 🤷‍♂️. Cleaning kegs I don't generally dismantle. My view if the beer can get to it when assembled the cleaner will too. Again haven't had any problems in a few years.

How long to leave in primary fermentation?

The photos look fine, that's the hop residue on top. Ideally it should drop before kegging, but generally I find the residue sticks to the side of the fermenter as the level drops. I am surprised you are reading 1.000 on your hydrometer, although it looks like it on your photo, the brew would...

How long to leave in primary fermentation?

Barrel it, you'll be adding sugar to carbonate anyway, and you'll be allowing it to condition in the barrel. That said, if you didn't get the chance and it was 4 weeks in the fermenter you would still be absolutely fine.

    Closed Transfer and Tapping Keg

I guess if it hasn't been in the keg for long it will probably still be cloudy, but that doesn't stop you drinking it. Have I've and see what you think. Just try not to drink it all before it has been in there for a few weeks!

    Closed Transfer and Tapping Keg

In answer to your questions. 1) I use the CO2 from fermentation to purge a corny by attaching the gas out from the fermenter to the beer out post on the keg, with a spunding valve on the gas out post of the keg. I then increase the pressure on the spunding valve towards the end of fermentation...

That's the great thing about this hobby, you get to choose what you want

    How long to sparge for.

Similar to others, I use brewfather software. Generally sparge is about 10l, which prob takes 15 mins or so. I set the brewzilla to boil when starting the sparge which saves time. When the dripping has slowed down I take the grain basket off and leave it in a bucket to continue dripping. Then...

    Tilt Hydrometer

My tiltpi stopped connecting to my network when I went to virgin media and I can't work out how to fix it despite trying loads of things and getting advice from the manufacturer. Shame as it was working really well. Also mine drains batteries badly at the moment, although they were a job lot of...
