    Lactic Acid or AMS/CRS?

This must be a terrible forum then :tinhat:

The 'Recommend me a TV series' thread

That's a shame, and to be honest there were a few eye-roll moments in the first series, contrived scenes designed for Ricky to push his own ideology, but overall I really liked it. I think he's a brilliant actor but I also have a suspicion that Stephen Merchant was the real talent behind The...

The 'Recommend me a TV series' thread

I've been watching Ricky Gervais' newest show After Life on Netflix. Almost finished series 1 and really enjoying it, much darker than his other stuff but well written and brilliantly acted.

Does Brewfather not tell you what the resulting profile is after the adjustments?

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

For me yes, there's good stuff in water other than calcium, sulphate, and chloride.

Yep. RO can be useful for diluting mineral content to a workable level, which in my opinion is a better option than using 100% RO.

Increasing calcium sulphate and chloride - Help please!

You absolutely can do it this way, that's the method outlined in the beginner's guide, but if you want more control then you can start playing with more specific targets for sulphate and chloride.

Increasing calcium sulphate and chloride - Help please!

Yes I get what you're saying but the aim for calcium is more of a minimum than a specific target, so you can for example aim for a minimum of 100ppm calcium while targeting a more specific sulphate:chloride ratio or level.

Increasing calcium sulphate and chloride - Help please!

You're with NI Water so if you download your full report it will tell you what your sulphate and chloride levels are. Once you have that info then it's a simple calculation to see how much gypsum and CC to add. Adding 0.1g/L of gypsum increases sulphate by about 53ppm. Adding 0.1g/L of CC...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Personally I don't like 100% RO but I know plenty of people do. It doesn't matter as long as you know how to use it. If you're doing the maths yourself then you'll need to account for the extra water weight so to speak in hexahydrate compared to dihydrate. If you're using software of some kind...

    Lactic Acid or AMS/CRS?

Take a few litres of water, test the alkalinity, add a known quantity of your mystery acid, retest the alkalinity. An addition of 0.1ml/L of AMS will remove around 20ppm alkalinity, the same amount of lactic acid will remove about 50ppm. Even if this test isn't entirely conclusive, it'll let...

    What did you brew today?

It definitely looks like brett pellicle, but I hope you're right. I'm going to leave it in the FV for a few weeks to see what happens thumb.

    Strange-steve's Homebrew Reviews

This afternoon's beer is a Vienna lager courtesy of @Pennine and I love a good lager so I've been looking forward to this... Aroma Lightly toasty, hints of toffee, distinctive herbal/floral noble hop aroma, fruity, slight note of sulphur. Appearance A really nice red/copper colour, a bit of...

    What's in your ads?

I get the impression my post on page 4 has been misinterpreted. I wasn't being critical of the fact that this forum has an active social side, and certainly not of the members. My issue is entirely with some of the decisions made by certain admin/mods, which apparently wasn't clear so let me...

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

I poured this earlier and about 30 seconds after I took this pic and literally before I managed a single sip of it I somehow dropped a ketchup covered greasy chip from my cod supper straight into it. Couldn't bring myself to drink it so I have no idea what it's like. Smelled nice though.

    What's in your ads?

Nope, but this seems to have served as a convenient strawman to distract from the point.
