What are you drinking tonight 2024.

My last batch of light ale, been in the keg for two weeks, I did taste it last week and it wasn't great. It seems to have sorted itself out now though, the late addition Lorien hops are really coming through nicely and giving it a floral finish. The Kveik Hornindal is imparting some nice...

    What did you brew today?

Ah, nothing like a game of gusher roulette 🤣

    Is cask beer this simple?

I'm planning on doing two back to back 30 litre brews over the coming fortnight, I've just found a good deal on the very same barrel so got another two on the way (why didn't I shop around before I bought the first one? Doh!) so I'm planning to allocate one batch just for the three casks. I'm...

    Kits I Wouldn't Brew Again

I've never had great results from kits, possibly because I've only ever gone for the cheaper ones, but my last one was truly foul. Simply Yorkshire Bitter, tasted like diluted liquid malt extract, I know that's exactly what it is but it really shouldn't stay like that after fermentation should...

    Is cask beer this simple?

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm definitely sold on the idea, I bought a 2 gallon Bigger Jugs pressure barrel on Amazon this morning so I'll be giving it a go with my next brew in a couple of weeks. Just need to find space for it now...

    Is cask beer this simple?

After seeing a post from @Hazelwood Brewery in the 'what are you drinking' thread some days ago: I'm inspired to give this a go, but, after doing quite a bit of reading up on this, I'm still unsure if it's simply a case of bottle conditioning but on a much larger scale? Is there more to it...

    Greggs vegan sausage rolls

At the end of the day it seems like an appetising toss up between vegetable refuse/lab grown fungus and snouts/eyelids/testicles. :vomitintoilet:

How many litres of home brew have you made 2024

Just bottled 23 litres of mead, finally filled every bottle (55 in total) in my 'standard' mead rack! Total 6621 litres

Man Cave, who has one ?

Any excuse to show off my little shed... It's rendered invisible by the questionable satin dust covers, but, in the second from last pic there's a TV on a swivel arm above an Xbox one and PS2 (I prefer the old consoles!). The lighting, air conditioning and small but rather fancy looking...

    Crossmyloof

Same here, they're one of the very few places I've found that carry Lorien hops (my personal favourite) and their hop oil extract is a constant go to of mine. I use their Kveik Hornindal in pretty much every beer I brew. Not to mention the occasional freebie packs of yeast or hop dust with...

    What did you brew today?

That's pretty much my entire process 🤣

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Took a gamble on this as it's the only Hobgoblin I've not tried to date, but Tesco had them on offer and I'm running low on decent beer since I had to tip 40+ bottles down the sink this week due to the dreaded chlorophenols :( Fortunately I'm pleasantly surprised, it was a bit too...

    Has anybody used Temu?

My wife uses Temu on a constant basis, it's an Aladdin's cave of cheap tat, or at least that's what ends up cluttering our living room. Not too sure if I'd trust brewing stuff from them.

    Klarstein Mundschenk

I did consider keeping a couple of bottles somewhere particularly warm and seeing if they became energetic/murky on opening, but the three or four I've opened so far have been clear and only lightly carbonated. The fermenter was emptied out and was more or less dry before the first brew so I...

    Klarstein Mundschenk

I just finished bottling the second batch I made in the Mundschenk, it smells and tastes like beer, no TCP whatsoever. I put this batch directly on the trub from the previous (infected/chlorophenol infused) batch so I was a bit worried that there would be eighty odd bottles of beer going down...

    Zombie knife ban

It's not quite the same principle though is it? A cutting/stabbing weapon can be fashioned out of an almost inexhaustible amount of everyday items, some of the prison improvisations are a fascinating example of ingenuity, if rather sinister Someone can go outside, pick up a chunk of flint...

    Zombie knife ban

It's kind of staggering when you look at the definition of 'zombie knives' under the ban: 'any blade over eight inches with a pointed end' so that's the vast majority of comprehensive kitchen knife blocks prohibited now. Many years ago I collected swords, knives, axes etc (all responsibly...

    Klarstein Mundschenk

It's probably the only beer I've ever brewed that I didn't taste immediately before bottling, sods law really, that certainly would have narrowed it down a bit. I use Milton to sterilise everything, have done for decades, this is the first time I've ever had off flavours of any kind. The more...

    Klarstein Mundschenk

I've just opened a few bottles that was from the first batch I brewed in the Mundschenk, I think something went horribly wrong The beer is crystal clear, has a pretty decent head retention and is reasonably well carbonated, the issue is, it absolutely stinks of and has a profoundly strong...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Quite delightful, sherry cask finish. This used to be prevalent in supermarkets but it seemed to disappear when I wanted it, good old Amazon though, cheap as chips and rather lovely!
