    Pickled eggs...

Thanks. Suspected that was the case. I've cooked them exactly the same way and had very different results between batches...

    Pickled eggs...

Ah wish I'd known that. Gave it a go this morning and shells were a nightmare to get off. Never figured out the secret, sometimes they slide off perfectly, these were very fresh, maybe that had something to do with it.... Anyway, simple pickle liquor of white vinegar, sugar and salt, augmented...

    Pickled eggs...

I've got a great thing going where I give a mate my spent grain for his chooks, and he gives me eggs. But I'm inundated. Someone suggested pickled eggs so I could serve them with home brew to guests, which sounds great, but I've never tasted one, let alone make them. Simple recipes available...

    Would You Try This?

I had a curry beer at a festival once. Love a curry. Love a beer. They go really well together. But combined it was foul... 😀

    Would You Try This?

It looks absolutely awful. But yes I'd try it, to confirm my suspicions...

The 'Recommend me a TV series' thread

Currently watching Ripley. I'm not sure about it. Filmed in B&W and the settings, clothes and cars etc are brilliant, as is the acting, I'm just finding it a little boring...

No definitely got caught up. Was a hell of a job untangling it for the farmer. (Had to break one leg off and use crowbar to untwist fence wires). He wanted the head too which was slightly unpleasant. Matches the fallow stsg skull he has hanging on his shed. There's a few deer about the place...

Wasn't all death. Lots of walks, abseiling down cliffs (one bloke is a rope course instructor) and sitting round a driftwood bonfire with a good book, marshmallows, quality home brew and a good single malt. Kids and dog loved it... 🙂

Wildlife abounds. Penguins, seals, deer. We caught blue cod and sharks off the rocks. Found this NZ fur seal skull, looks like a land based predator...

    Glass or Plastic for Bottling

I usually bottle 2-3 PETs to check carbonation. I've compared squeezed ones to normally capped ones. No appreciable difference apart from seeing the distorted squeezed bottle reform as pressure rises. Maybe a long term difference but I always drink the PETs first so who knows?

    Obtaining bottles

As others have said it varies depending on the label. Instead of using my good PBW sometimes I just use a cheap oxy-type laundry detergent. Fill the sink with hot water and detergent, sink or stand the bottles so the label is covered and leave. All going well the labels come off, but if not it's...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Ah good point, they probably could. I pretty much left them alone this year, previous years I've fed them manure, compost and flower fertiliser. Given the rate they grow no doubt the soil is a bit depleted...
