    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

I have a pressure fermenter with spunding valve and lots of other stuff I will probably need to bottle from the fermenter. I started a lager (pseudo really as it is a Muntons Continental kit LMEs with 500g more extra pale DME) using Diamond lager yeast, at 13C. I left the wort until the pressure...

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

So the all rounder has a metal thread or is it all plastic?

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

Thanks for the reply. I like the Apollo thermometer tube into the center of the fermenter, I don't think there's any other real difference from the specs and what I can see so may well go for the Apollo.

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

I would like to know if anyone has experience with an Apollo 30L snub nose compared to a Fermzilla 30L all rounder? A company in Germany recon they've had less than stellar feedback about the Apollo, but they are still selling the Fermzilla so not sure it's unbiased info to be honest.

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

Your solution is pretty complete. I'm just trying to keep costs down and installing a full Aircon then running it 24/7 at 17C is more than I do anywhere in the house at present. I ferment/store in 2 small insulated chambers, which can be collapsed when not in use. keeping these at 20C in high...

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

Hi Davegas, thanks for the info, where did you buy the valve/gauge in the photo. It looks better than those I have seen available.

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

I agree in general and that is what I currently do. However, where I live the temperatures get up to 40C in July and stay above 30 until October. I have cooling but it is really pushed to keep a fermenting beer at 20C and later when bottled I have to keep it at 20C for 3 weeks until all the...

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

So better to give the yeast a day or 2 then set the pressure and let the temperature rise?

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

I have a question about pressure control on pressurised fermentation. If I set the spunding valve to e.g. 10 psi after pitching, that pressure comes in from the CO2 cylinder. When fermentation gets going isn't the pressure in the fermenter going to rise? What maintains the vessel pressure to...

Using CO2 in bottling from a bucket fermenter

Thanks very much everyone, the overwhelming advice is that it's not worth it so I'll be saving the money for some BIAB equipment instead.

Using CO2 in bottling from a bucket fermenter

Hi All, I've had an idea about using CO2 in bottling from a fermenter to a mixing bucket then to bottles. I would like a sanity check before investing in equipment so please feel free to say yes or no if it has been done before or just won't make any difference. I brew from kits, I am still...

Strong, bitter, metallic taste after a week bottled

Hi MmmBeer, thanks for the link that is a very useful reference. I can't find any other off taste in the links that matches. I don't have any metal components in the fermentation or bottling steps. The water could have metal ions, though it tastes OK (slight chlorine which I will get campden...

Strong, bitter, metallic taste after a week bottled

Hi all, I have done a fair few kits over the last 8 months. I have pretty good temperature control for fermenting and post bottling (in summer here it gets HOT). In the last 2 months (December-January) I have done 4 kits which have all been bottled in a mix of 450-500ml flip tops and 1l capped...

    BIAB Do I Don’t I

Hi Nick's 90, "little Bluetooth temp sender says it's at 20c and drop the wort" What device do you use? I've been looking for a high temp wireless sensor, where did you get it? Thanks.

Some advice on upping Muntons Gold Continental Pilsner yeast

Thanks to MmmBeer and Sandimas for your advice. I think I'll go for using 2x Saflager and keep it down to 12C for primary fermentation, then raise it for a day to 16C then upto 21C before bottling . I'm a bit worried about the 2nd fermentation in bottles as it will have to be kept at 14C for...

Some advice on upping Muntons Gold Continental Pilsner yeast

Hi All, I have done a fair few kits over the last 9 months and had some good and not so good results at the start and over summer where it gets really hot (40C). I have temperature control for fermentation going well and do about 2-3 weeks controlled temp 2nd fermentation in bottles, after that...
