What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Out with work in Salisbury. Starter in Sips had #3, tap takeover from Breakbeat but imperial stout isn’t the ideal first drink so didn’t partake. Then to Green King pub. 6x wasn’t great, 2 pints of Level head which may be my favourite session ipa? Seems unlikely but it was very good.

I think I understand the problem now. The raisins are not included in the OG measurement but will we assume give up fermentable sugar over time, so you have probably run into the limit of the yeast and that is why it is perceived as being much more alcoholic.

Yes the hydrometer looks fine - how much of what yeast was pitched?

I would expect a largely sugar fermentation to finish close to 1.000. What was the fermentation temperature? A couple of suggestions - the hydrometer should read 0 in water, worth checking. Also it is calibrated for a certain temperature normally 20 degrees, if either OG or FG samples were at a...

    Adding Grapefruit peel/juice to fermentor

For reference Cascade + Moutere tastes so much like grapefruit you wouldn’t want to add anything else.

    UKSkydiver's Brewdays

Gordon Strong describes a method he calls a “round trip” mash that starts at target conversion temperature, naturally cools down then reheats to mashout. It is meant to be maximally fermentable but I guess this predates temperature controllers that can do a step mash easily.

I only got one of these, nice day for it in the garden. Akoya and Godiva, low carbonation, never had maibock before. Full of flavour.

Dry yeast recommendations for two brews

Well you could just as well do five brews from a single dry packet as well it’s just people don’t tend to bother. For the OP: you would normally pitch 2 packets dry lager yeast in 23l.

I thought the original was overwhelmed by black treacle (my guess). I guess I like the idea of a British Trappist more than the reality.

Guten / SS Brewtech stainless fermenter lid comparability.

This is quite an old thread but unless klarstein previously made/sold a smaller fermenter then the answer is no. The Brewtech is 25l (I have a lid only…) the Klarstein is 30l (I have the no bottom valve version). The brewtech would be a better overall option aside from the cost as it would fit...

My all British pilsner. I have overdone the flavour hop but the lagering has gone well.

    Small pils.

Sundance seemed appropriate. It’s on the fruity/dank end of the style that I prefer more citrus. They don’t list hops unfortunately. Not bad.

Rare for me to drink this - wheat beer I made for my wife. CML crystalweizen and so clear you can see the accidental yeast pour from the end of the bottle.

Storing beer between fermenter and keg?

Getting one more keg would be my choice. There will probably be someone who kegs and keeps without refrigeration on here?

Mash water volume? vs sparge method ?

Full volume no sparge you will probably not need extra grain. You will need a big BIAB bag and probably something to hold it off of the element at the base.
