    Brewfather

I use the brew father auto water calculator and then 'fine tune' by playing with the figures. In terms of the pre-loaded profiles by style, I usually use them as a starting point but do plenty of research as well and adjust if I feel appropriate.

    Recipe not followed

Yeah pretty much the same but I do plan what I do through brewfather first and stick with it on brew day

    RO Filters

I didn't mean to use all of the waste water, just some of it. Depending on the desired water profile I might use ro and tap water 50:50. I guess though in answer to my original question that you may as well not have bothered to filter that portion of it and use more straight tap water. I think...

    RO Filters

Just had a thought... I usually brew with a blend of ro water and tap water to get to a desired water profile. Could some of the 'waste water' from the ro filter be used as part of the blend? 🤔 Or is that defeating the object? I can't decide if that's a stupid question or not 😂

I've just found out I've been calculating ABV wrong all these years!

I always use the brewer's friend calculator and that gives 5.25% for your example. I'm sure the difference is within margin for error anyway and how important the fraction of abv is to you

    RO Filters

I thought you would have ;) All in all you are making buying the pump look very tempting to speed up the process as I usually have to do it over a couple of evenings.

    RO Filters

So I suppose the important question is whether the two samples are the same in terms of the tds....?

    Common word pairs.

Apologies, I understood from when the thread started that the link between the pairs could be more oblique than just a repeated word, thank you for clarifying 👍

    RO Filters

I stand corrected 😀 but I'm still not sure how 🤔

    RO Filters

Surely the volume of waste water will be exactly the same per volume of ro water produced, just wasted quicker? 🤔

    Grain bill / water ratio

I use 3L per kg of grain. I think though some of the answer will depend on what works best on your system and gives you the best efficiency. Also the maximum capacity of your mash tun could be a limiting factor depending on how big it is. Some people prefer a wetter mash to aid recirculation...

    What did you brew today?

19L of saison today with mj m29 French saison yeast. Not done one before and I'm a bit hesitant about it sitting at 26C in the fermenter but we will see!

    Christmas/Winter Ale

I am planning on brewing my Christmas ale at the end of the month to give 2-3 weeks in the fermenter and a full 3 months conditioning. I have done one before mid September with good results but bear in mind that these are not that strong at 5-6%.

    What did you brew today?

I used the brexit yeast to make a neipa earlier in the year and it was really good. Fruit juice aroma like rubicon. I think that beer got a placing in one of the forum competitions a few months ago.

Issue with Inkbird ITC308S - anyone else had this?

After much back and forth with inkbird and 2 replacement units it looks like the WiFi version they sent me most recently is free of this fault 🤞 I think the most frustrating thing myself and a few others found was that inkbird refused to acknowledge the problem even after sending them a video...
