    Electric cars.

The Tesla connector doesn't support 3 phase power which is required in Europe for high current AC charging. It could have been redesigned to incorporate it, but the CCS standard was already here. The weird thing is that on the continent something like 80% of Tesla superchargers are available to...

    Electric cars.

EVs are only more expensive now because the makers are choosing to make more expensive models of cars. When looking at second hand Hyundai Konas recently cars I found that the price difference between an EV and Hybrid was almost nothing once you were looking at similar spec, age and mileage cars.

    Steel weight for dry hopping

304 (also known as A2 or 18/8) or 316 (also known as A4 or 18/10) stainless steel Whatever you use it's likely to be covered in machine oil which will readily come off in your beer. Give it a multiple cleans and rinses with neat washing up liquid before use.

    The NOT Budget thread

Specific reference to what? I saw that the Deputy Speaker reiterated that MPs shouldn't be leaking details of the budget outside of Parliament. That's not a question of Parliamentary privilege - which only applies when speaking in session in Parliament - that's just the convention of how it's...

    The NOT Budget thread

They don't have free reign. You can only speak when standing, and you have to be called to stand. Once you're standing you can say pretty much anything as long as you believe it to be the truth. It's one of the Speaker's purpose's in the Commons to tell MPs to shut up if they're not standing.

    The NOT Budget thread

Why do our national representatives have to act like they're at a child's Christmas pantomime when they're discussing matters that affect the livelihoods of millions? It's pathetic.

    Electric cars.

The conclusion of the first article… “So what was terrible about my journey? Absolutely nothing about the driving or charging experience. The Tesla Model Y was brilliant for the whole weekend, had plenty of space for occupants and luggage, and the range was spot on. There were zero issues with...

    Electric cars.

I will say that looking at an upcoming drive from London to Manchester, the number of charging points at motorway services is pathetic given the number of cars going through them. Many places only have 3 chargers, usually with a pile of complaints on Google maps that the chargers are slow or...

    Milkshake IPA - peach or?

I highly recommend the Boiron no added sugar purees. Most other purees have 10%+ added sugar, but these do not. I've not tried the peach but the mango and passion fruit ones were excellent. Looks like you can get it on Amazon...

    Electric cars.

Sort of. Many of their most popular chargers still appear to be Tesla only.

    Which spunding valve?

The brass ones use a poppet PRV and the problem I've found with them is that they're not very sensitive and they tend to close at a lower pressure than they open. I think that this is due to the small surface area of the valve and the relatively low pressure they're being used at. The kegland...

    Best quality threaded disconnects?

All the plastic ones can be stripped - just stick a stout flat head driver in the top and twist. For the grey/black plastic ones CMB, Keg King and Kegland have all been identical for me in practice over several years. I use stainless steel flow control disconnects for liquid, but if you don't...

Porridge Jim but not as we know it.

Putting aside kitchen equipment boondoggles - heating oats on a hob is certainly superior to microwaving, and it's not that much slower. I find the stirring while heating quite meditative.

Porridge Jim but not as we know it.

That's what I mean - you'd specifically use it for gas, and it shouldn't be required on induction.

Porridge Jim but not as we know it.

I'm really confused by this thing - an induction double boiler. To explain - you'd normally use a double boiler to heat gently and evenly. The reason for using one is because gas stoves burn at 140C+ and can heat quite unevenly. In the case of porridge I can see you could end up burning the...

    Starsan

I wouldn’t worry about either, but if you must then… Are they thin clear plastic, or the thicker opaque (or nearly opaque) plastic? You can usually buy the latter from a garden diy place for £1.50 or less, and they will survive pretty much anything.

    Starsan

Starsan and Chemsan are basically the same thing, using a blend of phosphoric acid and a sulfonic acid to do their sanitising. I batch mix 5 litres with RO water at a time, and it lasts months without any reduction in effect. Might be different if you're mixing with tap water, but I wouldn't...

    Hydrogen Vs BEV cars.

Although having said that if batteries are warrantied to 8/10 years they should be engineered to be useful for at near double that as the warranty expiration should sit in the middle of a bathtub curve.

    Hydrogen Vs BEV cars.

Age is going to be more of a problem for EV batteries than mileage. I’ve seen enough reports of cars doing 200k miles inside 9 years without any issues.

    Hydrogen Vs BEV cars.

There’s plenty of lithium, it’s more the other rare earths used in the battery like cobalt that tend to be the problem. There is a cobalt free battery starting to be used in cars that gets around this problem though.
