    smart meters

What I don't understand is why they need your permission to change your meter - it's their effin equipment supplied and fitted by them. When did these things suddenly become ours? It's the same with the phone sockets. Apparently you risk being charged if your fault on your line turns out to be...

    smart meters

We had an ageing desk top PC that used a lot even when it was switched off if it was on at the plug. Also more careful use of the immersion heater. Mostly I think the old meter was grossly over reading. You tend to think these things are accurate, but they're not. Of course you'd be scr**ed if...

    smart meters

I don't know about other people's experience with smart meters but my leccy bill dropped by about a third after we got ours . In fact even with all the price hikes we're still paying a bit less per quarter than we were over 12 years ago.

    Russel Brand accused of ****.

He was being lambasted on woman's hour radio 4 this morning for having relationship with a 16 year old when he was 30. Not illegal but not nice either. I think they should stick to stuff that might actually be criminal and then it's the business of the police and not the media.

    Electric cars.

What, worse than Jaguar Land rover? Must be pretty bad then ..

    Electric cars.

The main reason to put a huge tariff on Chinese EVs is to keep the cost of EVs higher than ice cars. Can't have the plebs having cheap cars can we? They've been telling us for ages that EVs are nearly the same price as equivalent ice cars. Ha bl***y ha...

    Cider without juicing

If you want to make pressing easier, freeze then thaw the apples first. This ruptures the cell membranes and let's the juice out easier.

    Climate change.

Well it's probably just as well that most people do still visit the stores as I'm fairly sure that supermarkets don't have sufficient vehicles to be delivering to 60 odd million customers Anyway, some of us actually like doing the shopping.

    Homegrown hop drying

But it does save quite a lot of money in the long run when you consider the price of hops. Just make sure you're growing the variety of hops you are going to want to use all the time.

    Climate change.

We've just had a 30 minute boil and it's plenty long enough. Looking forward to chilling in the next few days...

    Bramley Apple Cider

I made cider last year from mostly cooking apples plus about 30% Tesco's apple juice. It was drinkable but definitely inferior to even straight turbo cider. I've heard others say 20% cookers is ok but no more.

Does AG take less time to condition than kits?

Basically: Simple grain bill, hop forward - drink young. Complex grain bill, malt forward - drink after conditioning

    Elderberry receipt question

Actually, historically receipt was often used where these days we say recipe.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Got to have a sort out this winter. I've got 2 cascades that always do well, a prima Donna that kind of dwindled and I think has been taken over by runners from the cascade, a challenger that's good plus a Progress that I don't really like and doesn't produce much anyway, and a Golding variant...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Picked my Challenger hops today and half of my Cascade. Much less quantity than last year but I'm not too bothered as I still have quite a lot left from last year. They were definitely ready to pick - finished picking with very sticky hands. So now we've got a week of nice weather forecast I've...

Ulez expanded to include whole of outer London

True but there is a scrappage scheme and non compliant old vehicles are more or less covered by the amount on offer

That souer GUINNES taste.. how to get it?

I usually drink draught Guinness down the pub - never get any sour taste. Guinness zero on the other hand has a nasty twang to it.

    Admiral Hops

I brewed a pale ale smash with it once. Found it quite unpleasant when young but it mellowed out after a few weeks and was quite good then.

What do you do with beers you don't like?

I'm sure most of us occasionally turn out a brew that is a bit of a disappointment but drink them anyway. Compared to some of the beers you get down the pub any disappointment pales into insignificance.

Career change - engineer to brewer

It's a shame that small scale brewing isn't treated the same as small scale cider production by HMRC
