Malt Pipe Bottom Screen Mesh Size

I'd be interested to know how your brew day goes - I have a 25L Klarstein Maischfest with the grain basket. I've always used a bag inside the basket to limit the gains passing through and giving me the clearest wort possible, while ensuring the recirc pump isn't clogged up. However, if the...

    Slug problems... anyone?

My back garden is writhing in slugs at night time. Someone has recommended Nemaslug to me. It's available on your usual online markets but it's not cheap. Going to buy a box of it soon. Has anyone in here used it?

    What did you brew today?

11.5L of Tropical Stout. My efficiency was lower than previous (65% instead of 75%) but still managed to keep it a decent ABV level, within the BJCP guidelines. Trial jar sample tasted great, so hopefully this will be a good one for the winter brew and swop.

    Car door shade recommendations

I bought a set from amazon to fit the Qashqai I had at the time. They were suction cup types and were a great buy - they also fitted the new model of Qashqai that I bought. I only paid a fiver at the time but I see its now doubled in price. I've posted the link to it below for your...

    Sparge bucket.

I use one of those collapsible plastic colanders over the grain basket and pour from a 2L jug. I'm always on the lookout for a bigger diameter one that'll fit snugly inside the basket though. At the moment, I move the colander around to ensure that the full surface area of the grain is 'washed'.

    Inkbird 308s on ebay

Purchased! Good timing, thanks! Been looking to get an inkbird to use my spare undercounter fridge as a fermenting chamber. Some second hand ones I've been looking at were actually more expensive.

    Obtaining bottles

I would look on your local Facebook Marketplace freecycle pages too. I managed to source 24x330ml swing tops to my collection of glass bottles. Someone close by really likes Flensburger! I've also been reusing commercial beer bottles and some friends keep theirs for me. I started out with PET...

Winter Brew and Swap - Tropical Stout

Same here - a 10L batch to give me a 5L mini keg and 10 bottles. If it's successful, I can always do another batch rather than 'forcing' my way through 20 or more bottles. 😄

Winter Brew and Swap - Tropical Stout

Count me in! Had my recipe ready last week in anticipation of this style being the winner. Looking forward to brewing this one. 👍

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Visited a craft beer shop in Paisley today to pick up a bottle of commercial Saison to compare to my own. Ended up picking up a couple plus a Sabro IPA that turned out to be non alcoholic! 🤦‍♂️ First up, the zero alcohol Sabro IPA, to get it out the way 😄. It's actually really really good. I...

Water Treatment Questions - Bicarbonate vs Alkalinity

I understand/agree with everyone's comments here, and I was tempted to just proceed with using the Westlab stuff until I checked the CML website and found that they sell Epsom Salts. So, 100g bag ordered along with a packet of yeast for a future brew. £5, free postage. Sorted.

Water Treatment Questions - Bicarbonate vs Alkalinity

Morning all! Response from Westlab regarding my query on the difference between their Epsom Salt and Home Brew Shops' Epsom Salts: "As a business, we advise our customers not to consume, as these products have been developed as Bath Salts. This is due to production & storage of goods...

Water Treatment Questions - Bicarbonate vs Alkalinity

It's maybe an older pack that you have because there is nothing on mines that says food grade and I only bought it yesterday.

Water Treatment Questions - Bicarbonate vs Alkalinity

I've replied to Westlab, asking what the difference is between their 100% natural Magnesium Sulfate and my home brew store's version. I'm interested to know what makes it not suitable for consumption.

Water Treatment Questions - Bicarbonate vs Alkalinity

Thanks @Northern_Brewer and @Cheshire Cat As much as I'd like to think that Westlab are just covering their backsides, and all will be OK, I think I'll just need to buy from a HBS to be safe. I'll use that as an excuse to buy ingredients for another brew, therefore justifying the postage cost...

Water Treatment Questions - Bicarbonate vs Alkalinity

Afternoon all. Resurrecting this thread rather than starting a new one... For my next brew day, I'll be delving into the rabbit hole of water treatment. After doing a lot of research (and not wanting to pay delivery costs for one packet of Epsom Salt), I decided that I'd buy Westlab Reviving...

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

I was in Cornwall last week too. No room in my 15kg case allowance to bring back any liquid goodies though! Wish we'd had the time to visit a brewery but we did manage to squeeze in a visit Healey's Cider Farm which had really good tour with loads of tastings at the end. A brewery nonetheless...
