What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

You're 100% correct. As I said, it could also have been down to the fact that I brewed it very close to the BBE date, who knows 🤷 I watched the Partridge Brothers review of this kit and noticed that theirs appeared to be much lighter in colour - more like the vibrant gold described on the...

What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

I'm drinking my Mangrove Jacks Single Hopped Nelson Sauvin IPA. I brewed this one short (21L) and kegged it into 2x5L mini kegs and 1x9.5L corny. Previous MJ kits that I've done have been brilliant (Pink Grapefruit being a particular favourite), but this one is just 'OK'. I wonder if its...

All In One for Smaller Batches

Klarstein Maischfest 25L? I've started doing smaller batches of 12L or 15L to suit my beer consumption between brews. 15L batches are achievable in the 25L Maischfest. Cheaper bit of kit too. I picked mines up from HiFi Tower as a Grade B item, which meant that it might have some minor...

    Klarstein

That's a good point, and one I never thought of. I suppose if you sparge, the sugars should be washed through the basket and into the kettle, but I can understand how a bag could lead to better efficiency. Might give it a try on my next brew 🤔

    Klarstein

The only thing I don't like about the Klarstein is controlling the mash temperature. If I set it at say 66degC, the temp can drop to 63 before the element kicks back on, then it can overshoot to 68 or 69 before turning off again. I bought a pump to recirculate the wort to make the temp in the...

    Klarstein

It's just a standard crush size. I don't have a grain mill, so I just buy the grain pre crushed from the various online suppliers. I don't brew often, so tend to buy grain in the quantities required for the brew, not in bulk.

    Klarstein

I use the lid of a pot that fits snugly inside the basket and push down pretty hard on the grain bed to get as much wort out of it as possible. It's quite a sturdy basket. Even the support ring that the basket sits on while draining/sparging is quite sturdy. That's the part that I thought might...

Summer Brew and Swap - NZ Pale Ale

I'm up for this one. Need to get back on the horse as brew days have been few and far between recently. I brewed the CML Maori Mingle too - the keg was delicious but my bottled stock quickly oxidised. 😢 need to invest in a counter pressure bottle filter methinks.

    Klarstein

I've got the Klarstein Maischfest 25L. I still use the basket. Infact, I used to use a brew bag inside the basket until I read that someone on here didn't use one, so I gave it a try and found that the holes in the perforated bottom plate of the basket are fine enough to stop grain passing...

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

In Edinburgh for a gig and a wee overnight. The hotel we're in has Knops 1505 Cardamom infused beer on draft, which is very nice! Hints of liquorice and quite tangy. It's quite similar to Estrella Inedit, which I had a bottle of earlier today too.

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

First one for tonight. Lots of Tropical aroma and taste. I'm not usually good at picking out flavours but I get papaya from this. Quite a pithy aftertaste, but strangely moresome. Maybe a little bit thin, but it's growing on me.

How many litres of home brew have you made 2023.

20L MYO American IPA Total 3,275L Second time brewing this, but I now have temp control, so hoping for better results, even though the first batch was perfectly lovely! 😁

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Bad day at the office today, so I'm breaking my new 'no alcohol Monday to Thursday' rule (didn't take long! 😁) Picked this up in sainsburys last night - £1.50 a can. Immediate aromas of passion fruit and a little pineapple. Taste is opposite - more pineapple and a little passion fruit. Not...

Cheapest full bodied red wine kits?

In my opinion, this beaverdale rojo tinto has a good body to it. I did make it short to improve that body though. I took a couple of bottles to a friends a few weeks ago. One of the bottles was supposed to be a gift for his dad, but my friends enjoyed it so much, we drank the second bottle too...

Cheapest full bodied red wine kits?

I'm drinking my Beaverdale Rojo Tinto right now. I brewed it short - 26 bottles instead of 30. It's been maturing for almost a year and a half now and is gorgeous. It's a winner with friends and family too. I have to be honest though, for the first 6 months in the bottle, it wasn't the best, and...

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Last bottle of my Saison. Its a sad day, this was a fantastic beer. Another one for the 'brew again' list.

    What did you brew today?

Feels like it's been a looong time since I last put a brew on - I'll need to check, but it might have been the tropical stout for the winter swap. Anyway, today I brewed my Mk IV German Pilsner. Mk I and II were OK but Mk III was a drain cleaner due to no temp control and an unexpected week of...
