AG 137 Summit IPA Just bottled up the last IPA and felt it was a shame to waste the verdant ipa yeast at the bottom of the fv, so might as well bang on another ipa! 3.5kg Maris Otter 200gm crysta 45ebc 19l mash at 68c for 60mins with a 4l rinse sparge Leaving 20l wort for a 30 minute boil...

    Rugby World Cup 2023

Agree, definitely a NZ / SA final After that game against Fiji I'm surprised most of the England team weren't shipped off to the nearest a&e! Never mind able to put up a good fight in the semis. To watch 2 players stop a sprinting Courtney Laws dead, lift him up and chuck him out of play was...

    My beer label artwork

I used to do labels, and occasionally I'll use stable diffusion to make one up - but most of the time I'm lucky if the bottle caps get a scribbled on 'a' for ale, 'i' for IPA, 'sa' for saison etc. Mostly they get put in the cellar by brew and rely on me remembering what it is But your labels...

AG 136 Chocolate advent calendar Probably a bit late, but I fancied doing a dark beer for my advent calendar this year, so put on a big choccy vanilla stout. 6 weeks should be long enough...just.... 4kg Maris Otter 250g roast barley 200gm crystal 145ebc 100gm cacao nibs 1 tablespoon vanilla...

    Nicks90's Brewdays

Double brew day today! Benefits of waking up at 4am meant i sat in bed for 10minutes with a coffee and then decided to get up and brew! AG 134 Autumn gold stocks are horribly low, so 17l of a nice ale will help remedy matters nicely! 3.5kg Maris Otter 200gm crystal 145 20gm roasted barley...

    Electric cars.

I would say anyone considering a second hand EV to hold their horses for a couple of years. The pickings are slim at the moment, as you are either stuck with low range leafs, or higher priced prestige vehicles. In another 2 or 3 years there will be half a million Tesla model 3 and Y, VW id3/4...

    Electric cars.

Totally agree chippy, you have to enter EV ownership with a sensible practical head on. Don't buy an EV with a 100-120 mile range (2nd hand leafs, or new minis, Citroen, Vauxhall etc) if your typical use case is over that distance on a very regular basis, or you can't reliably charge from home...

It's not just a Tesla thing .... Apparently JLR are disputing they have had crisis meetings with insurers and police about so many people being refused insurance on their evoques, velars and rangie sports. They say it's a bogus story, but the reality is they are one of the most stolen brands of...

What have you been smoking on bbq?

Picked up a new smoker that was half price at homebase yesterday Obvs I hadn't even lit it and I had the angle grinder on it. It has big legs and wheels, which won't work in jabbas hut. So quick measure and Mr angry made short work of the legs, reducing its height to that of my little BBQ...

Before fitting the airlock, full to the top?

Leave it for a few weeks and then add the apple juice to top up. Personally I would transfer ot to a clean demijohn then top up Not massively important when you do it, as long as it's after the main primary fermentation has more or less finished. As for the juice, just regular apple juice in a...

Had a nightmare with blackberry wine

As per my usual yearly routine, time to defrost all the blackberries and elderberries I've collected and get 9l of wine on the go! All went swimmingly to start with and followed my usual process. 2kg blackberry 1kg elderberry 2kg sugar dissolved in 8l boiling water 1 cup strong tea Place...

    Electric cars.

Although I do have to respond to this separately. 100% of ICE cars have to use a petrol station. Yet the evidence shows 80% of EV 'refueling' is done at home. So the requirement to be able to refuel ALL cars on the road with public fast chargers is not needed. But you are right, the system...

    Electric cars.

That's not entirely fully true. China is on track to go from 0% to 25% of their total energy from renewable by 2030 Might not sound as good as the UK hitting 50% renewable at times over the summer, but they have a population of over 1 billion and manufacture/export more than pretty much the...

    Electric cars.

This all day long. Ford Kuga 2l diesel or a Tesla model Y £39k v £43k The Tesla is saving me £210 per month in BIK and £200 per month is fuel. Over the 3 year lease I will be close to £10000 better off! And I get to feel good about driving an EV, as it feels a bit special but also green ego...

    Beginner experimentation

If youre dead set on doing this, I would suggest scaling it back a bit and do the following 2 demijohns with one yeast type, but different hops in each one 2 demijohns with a second yeast, but again using the same 2 hops as above 1 demijohn using no additional hops and use the kit yeast - so...

    Electric cars.

And there is your answer. 10 year warranty using bad products = cheap 25 year warranty using high quality products = more expensive It's like Terry Pratchett's analogy of shoes. A poor person can only afford 10 marks for a pair of shoes and they lasts one year A rich person can pay 50 marks...
