    Fermenting wine

Just leave it a few months in a dark temperature stable place and forget about it. This allows it to fully ferment out and mature and also off gas any co2 held in suspension. All hedgerow and veggie wine benefit from a good 3-6 months at least before bottling, then another 3-6 months in the...

I've never had a successful brew with a MJ yeast

Isn't it weird how we all get different results with the same yeast. I really like MJ yeasts and so far (touch wood) never had an issue.

    Nicks90's Brewdays

5 month old yeast doing it's thing. Just goes to show that if you package it right and store it in a reliable fridge at 3-4c, it WILL last a good long time in a dormant state.

    Campden tablets in recipes

The tablet is more to inhibit bacterial and yeast growth and not for chlorine. Kills off the nasties over the first 24 hours , and has a chance to break down / dissipate before you add your yeast If you are doing 5 gallons, I would probably chuck a couple in, but not 5...

    Nicks90's Brewdays

and just to prove a point about yeast harvesting being discussed here https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/dirty-yeast.105618/#post-1292726 - i have a bottle of this yeast still in my fridge from AG 149 that i brewed in April And as its a lovely beer i have done a carbon copy of it. AG157...

    Dirty yeast

yes - in the fridge it goes in to a dormant state and can last a lot longer. And if you are careful, you wont get much trub in it. After bottling your beer, just give the FV a gentle swirl to lift in to suspension the top layer of yeast from the trub and then gently pour it in to your bottles...

    Dirty yeast

If you bottle your beers, no need to buy/use jam jars. Or even just use a fizzy pop bottle. Although with plastic you can't sanitise then dose with boiling water, as pepsi bottles go a funny shape hahahaha. But if you like your yeast store in the fridge to look like some form of modern art...

    Dirty yeast

Wow, I've been doing it wrong all this time... I've had yeast in bottles in my fridge for MONTHS before being used and so far I've managed to not die or had brews turn in to 3 headed dogs and eat me I donate a bottle that I sanitised with all the others on bottling day. It gets a glug of...

    Nicks90's Brewdays

I pitched at 25c and tuck it up in a warm corner of my office and just let it do it's thing. So no idea But I would imagine the temp will stay in the low to mid twenties during primary fermentation

    Electric cars.

There is a lot more parity in costs now between EVs and ice cars, especially in the mid market price range. Tesla model Y is 44k Find a car that has similar size and features (eg fastest model ice engine with auto box, matrix lights, heated bum warmers front + rear, all the gizmos) and you are...

    Electric cars.

thats not the case though, residuals for EVs are increasing quite a lot. as an example i got my Tesla model Y on the company scheme and i had to top up the allowance by £62 per month. That was 16 months ago. Straight after that there were loads of reports of the EV market collapsing...

    Beer foaming when bottling

Must have lots of dissolved co2 and the sugar is acting as nucleation points. Try adding the sugar to some boiled water and measure out the required sugar mix using a measuring spoon.

Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the nuts?

I think it's more to do with interpretation of pain. Go back to slang. 'you p#ssy' generally said to a softie or a derogatory term for wimpy act. Yet look how much said area goes through during a good session of drunken monkey ***. 'thats a ballsy move' or 'got a set of balls' denoting an act...

    Electric cars.

Yes Same studies that showed EVs were X times less likely to burst in to flames than ice cars, also showed hybrids were much much worse than ice due to their inherited risk from both systems PLUS the hugely complex electrical system that integrates the engine and battery/motor But no, I don't...

    Lallemand Belle Saison yeast

I have used this yeast maybe a dozen times and it's always cloudy until it's totally finished and then drops crystal clear very quickly. I tend to just give it 7 days post finishing before bottling and it's always super clear. It might ferment quickly, but it's still not a 'fast turnaround'...

    Belt in Oil

I'm on the fence with these. I can see the point and understand the design decision - with the appropriate belt material and oil spec they will last just as long as any other belt. But, BIG BUT, manufacturers use multiple suppliers, all trying to make a margin, and oil used at service time...
