    IT outage

Think of it being like your anti-virus software on steroids (they do a PC version too) that updates itself every day (sometimes more than once a day). What generally happens with groups of servers is that there is a "staging" server that downloads the patch from the internet, then delivers it...

Illegal campers leave a trail of destruction on the shores of Buttermere.

Trespass alone is a civil, not criminal law. Dartmoor tried to ban wild camping a couple of years back and it was rejected. https://www.dartmoor.gov.uk/enjoy-dartmoor/outdoor-activities/camping

    IT outage

Interesting. I'm told Waitrose and Morrisons were the main 2 supermarkets affected. I've been trying to mitigate risks all day - we deal with a LOT of banking and financial stuff for multiple customers and frankly, other than one of our suppliers needing to reboot part of their system to...

Illegal campers leave a trail of destruction on the shores of Buttermere.

And this is why we can't have wild camping. Leave only footsteps. Take only fond memories. I've done wild camping on Dartmoor. Other than the flattened grass, you wouldn't have known we were there! Was always taught to take everything with me. I teach the Scouts the same thing.

    IT outage

Turned out, it was rubbish in the village. It was only Waitrose. However, those people do shout loudly. As you said, the Post Office and Cash Machines were working just fine. We also have a Lidl. They were completely unaffected.

    Aldi Coffee Stout

Big fan of Aldi. They've done some great stuff in the past. And the tie-up with Brewdog is back (Aldipa) - decent enough can of session ale for £1 a tin. https://www.brewdog.com/uk/aldi-ipa-12-pack

    Aldi Coffee Stout

Missed this thread. I got this some years ago (it's not new to Aldi unless they've changed the recipe) https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1306/617460/ My gripe with it is that it misses a trick - I found it too thin and a bit fake. Many stouts, even ones under 5% are able to give a nice...

BIGGEST Balls up to date!, what’s your biggest fail?

That's a good shout. I previously built a hamster house out of thick plywood and varnished it using yacht varnish. That stuff makes things super solid (as you can imagine). Hard as nails.

    IT outage

It appears to be impacting people in different ways. We're seeing little impact in my job which I'd normally expect to see. My local village, however, is unable to take payments.

    Hot weather

I feel very lucky living near the coast. This is what is says. Reality is, if I take the dog to the seaside, there'll be a fresh solent breeze. When I lived in Buckinghamshire, this would have been a 31c day and I would have hid all day (except when I lived on the bottom of Dunstable Downs -...

Festivals that feature food - why use a major brewery?

Doom Bar is Sharps. Not my bag at all. Even the major breweries are starting to do American style pale ales (even if they're not great). My preference is either an APA etc or a dark beer (Old Peculier type thing) They had neither. They basically came with Landlord and Hopical Storm. I love me...

Festivals that feature food - why use a major brewery?

I'm going to Carfest in a few weeks (Well, roughly - I'm part of the car exhibits). Now if you don't know what this is about, basically it started as "Food, Cars, Music". It's got a little beyond that now. It now includes StarFest where they invite celebrities and others to come talk to people...

    Electric cars.

I have a wife with IBS. Trust me, 100 miles without a stop is seen as a win in our house

    Electric cars.

You might want to have a look at the new Catl batteries https://electrek.co/2024/04/25/catl-unveils-worlds-first-lfp-battery-4c-ultra-fast-charging/ Can add 60kw in 10 minutes (around 248 miles). The new chargers will be even faster - a 500kw charger could theoretically add 200 miles in 6...

    England manager poll

Heard a discussion yesterday. The reason Klopp learned to hate Liverpool was the media pressure. Apparently, on match day, he was expected to do around 10 interviews before a game and around 20 afterwards. In addition, his media commitments were a number of interviews every single day. Whilst...

Help with a recipe! (previously "keeping it simple")

Yup, that's a very fair point. One of my first AG was a DIPA. It was very drinkable, but oxidised. I very much keep mine an almost buttery colour now. But the first one looked more like a dijon

Help with a recipe! (previously "keeping it simple")

Follow up: Does anyone know of an app or a website where I can input the ingredients I have and come up with a recipe? Even loosely like "I've got this grain and these hops". I've got half a saison kit left where the grain contains: Premium Weyermanns Pilsner, PaleWheat Malt, Munich,Caramunich...

    England manager poll

I don't want Graham Potter anywhere near the job! Saying all of that, I thought Southgate was a poor choice, yet he's the only man to take England to 2 finals, so that turned out OK. Problem with international manager is getting the players to play together. You can have the best 20 players in...

    New Capri

Kia are South Korean (that's very different to China). Chinese models available in the UK currently include Tesla (many models), Volvo/Polestar, MG, Volkswagen, some Citroen / Peugeot and Dacia as well as others you may not have heard of like BYD and GWM who are fairly new. And here's your...

    New Capri

I'm off to France in a couple of weeks. Apparently it's about 30p a kW. I did however see some slower 11kwh chargers in Durham at a shopping centre that were 20p per kw. That's cheaper than many people can do at home! But it's 5+ hours for a full charge for most. But I suppose if you drip...
