OK, one more before the whisky. This is my stout. Also nice! 😂

Sounds like a plan coming together! 😂

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Introducing my English Strong Ale “Titan”. It is dark but not quite as dark as the picture suggests. I was going to brew this beer with an ABV around 7.5-8.0% but miscalculated the grain bill and it ended up at 6.3% so it’s more Titanic than Titan. On the other hand it’s strong, easy drinking...

Where are you moving to Alastair, is it local to you or somewhere different?

It isn’t ringing any bells for me so perhaps not. Is it available in any of the supermarkets?

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

I’ve been working on my brew shed today and cleaning the beer lines at the moment so this Butty Bach will keep me going while my beers are off-line.

    Hazelwood’s Brewday Part 2

The plan is primarily to brew a few more litres. I will, as usual, puff a few litres of CO2 into the keg before I transfer the beer into it so as to reduce the amount of oxygen in the keg. The main difference though is the reduced head space - last time I put 20 litres of beer in the keg which...

Three pints in and it’s starting to clear.

Just so I’m not altogether predictable, Pirate Pale. Not quite crystal clear but this might be because it’s a new keg - the flavour is there though.

    Hazelwood’s Brewday Part 2

I also started an experiment I mentioned in another thread, this post refers… I think I will start a new thread for this because it’s quite focused on one thing and might, if successful, be a useful thread for anyone struggling with low alkalinity water. Meanwhile, some pictures as a teaser 😉

    Hazelwood’s Brewday Part 2

I’ve brewed that Pirate Pale I mentioned yesterday, 21 litres in the fermentation cabinet. I only have this beer and the fermenting Doppelbock in the fermentation cabinet now although I do plan another batch of Pirate Pale to go in cask. It didn’t work so well last time because the volume...

Experiment beer ending up too sweet

As has been noted a lower level of bitterness can give the perception of sweetness so you could try a little extra bitterness if you repeat the brew. Yes, the sweetness can fade and your beer taste more crisp over 2-6 weeks as the beer conditions, your beer is very young at the moment. My...

    Hazelwood’s Brewday Part 2

I kegged another bitter today. Just for a change I introduced some slight variations to the regular recipe. I reduced the crystal and used carapils in place of torrified wheat. Out of the fermenter I think it’s a touch too pale but the flavour seemed good. Tomorrow I’ll brew another batch...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

After lunch with the grandchildren (I was drinking Sharpes Atlantic) and then a bit of kegging and prepping for another brew tomorrow it’s time for a beer. Cask best bitter.

Celebrating 10 years of AG brewing

I didn’t note the date of my first brew day but it was just after Christmas and will be 6 years in January - I’m still a noob seemingly! 😂 My wife bought me (at my instigation) a starter kit from Love Brewing which had all the basic equipment to brew kits and a couple of beer kits to go with it.
