Brewing my first beer for cask

Seems like they aren’t going after the big fish either https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/feb/18/hmrc-investigations-of-wealthy-tax-dodgers-halve-in-five-years?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

    Hand Crafted American IPA

Just hand my first bottle of this Munton's kit. For me, it's way too hoppy and bitter. The instructions said to put the hop pellets in after 4 days in FV and it should be ready after 4-6 days (from starting). The SG hadn't settled so left it until day 16. Should I have taken the hops out after a...

Just for a bit of balance, Farnham in the heart of tory Surrey money belt has just adopted 20mph limit in the town centre.

    Electric cars.

A bit off subject, but multi-storey car parks designed and built in the 60's are having to be re-evaluated. A mini back then was about 650kg now they approach 1800kg, hope they weren't built with RAAC (I doubt they are as RAAC is not a load bearing design)

    The Barge

We all know the government will do very little to actually process the refugees as the division in the press just plays to their audience and further divides us.

    Commercial beers and their claims…

Green King pubs were giving Madri away for free couple of months ago. Had my free one then back to the Neck Oil. Not impressed at all

    Priming bottles with a syringe

Using a funnel, I generally put my finger near the neck of the bottle so the funnel spout doesn’t touch anything, it never clogs. Only issue is with a lively brew that needs capping each time. Just stick the funnel in the sugar bowl to stop it getting damp. If you need to dry it spout you can...

    The end of Trappist beers?

I think the USP for the Trappist marque is quality over profit, any company taking over the brewery might have shareholders to worry about

    Please help me ...

Probably a simpler way to think about it, the more sugary the liquid is, the thicker it is so the hydrometer floats higher. The less sugar/more alcohol the thinner the liquid so it sinks more

The old kit finally sees daylight

Well, how did it go? OG 1045, happily bubbled for 10 days, the smell from the airlock was promising. Checked SG by drawing some of the brew from the tap into a sample tube, 1020. Went to taste it - my god I haven't tased anything that purported to be beer quite so bad, difficult to describe, bit...

    Building a healthy homebrew stash.

I’ve just bottled the St Peter’s Cream Stout, I’ll have to hide a few bottles to make sure I can get a 12 month check - thanks for the pointer

The old kit finally sees daylight

Having got a couple of brews under my belt I decided it was time to test the pre 1992 Boots kit. The can was under a little pressure and gave out a nice wet fart sound when open. Not sure what the original colour should have been but this was a dark tar colour. Followed recipe as best I could...
