How much crab apple can one add to normal apple cider

Hello, I've found a wild crab apple tree (apples a little smaller than a ping pong ball) and I wondered, will they spoil the taste of garden apple cider? If so, how much can I get away with adding? Thanks brewers.

    help me!

The yeast won't be dead however using natural yeast is slower and less tasty than adding them. In any case my house is quite cold and often there is little to nothing to see in the way of fermentation after 2 days. I'm not sure whether you should leave the vessel on the radiator, maybe just put...

    Sloe Wine

Good recipe, I'll bear it in mind once I've gathered the fruit, we have just had our first frost in North Yorkshire so I have been scouting out the sloes but I'd say it's still slightly early - where are you?

Is it viable to use old creosote tubs

Thanks for the sensible answers gentleman. Yes this was a serious question. I have a big selection of old creosote and creocote cans going back a long way and obviously factories and lumber mills or such places must have a way of removing creosote effectively. Also with my equipment doing 5...

Is it viable to use old creosote tubs

Hello, has anyone used old creosote cans sucessfully for fermenting / dispensing? Do you think this is possible, and if so, are there any particular chemicals I should use to make sure they are completely clean on the inside? I'm not sure what the correct word is for a 2 gallon plastic...

Can you combine DJs while fermentation is ongoing

Good evening gentlemen, is it ok to combine DJs of fermenting apple juice made from the same apples at close to the same time? They have had different yeasts and different amounts of sugar added. It would make things easier to combine them into 5 gallon tubs. Thanks

Will Sodium Metabisulphite damage my pressure barrel CO2 injection valve?

What should I do Terry? No, it's the CO2 injection barrel from thehomebrewshop.co.uk. Thanks for the suggestions anyway to be sure I can just sterilise it by an alternative mthod to be safe.

Will Sodium Metabisulphite damage my pressure barrel CO2 injection valve?

That's what I thought. Hoever I have bought a barrel with a brass valve and it came with a leaflet saying not to use SMBS as it can damage the valve. Maybe inside where I can't see it is stainless steel?

Will Sodium Metabisulphite damage my pressure barrel CO2 injection valve?

I usually sterilise with a teaspoon full of Na2S2O5, but I heard this can damage the valve. Thank you.

    My cider turned out ok

Yes! I have Wilko's wine constantly on the go, and when the plums, apples and sloes come through I will make some more cider, plum wine and sloe gin. The plum wine didn't ferment for some reason last season so fingers crossed. You never know I might try some apple wine or something I have a few...

    My cider turned out ok

Hello, at the time of making I had quite a few questions and concerns. I did have to ditch some juice as it wasn't fermenting for some reason but as my sig shows I now have 12 gallons of still cider from our own apples and it has basically turned out ok. I thought I would let the forum know...

    Tips on adjusting fermented cider

Ok I will sulphite again and back sweeten, I have found the figure of 2.75 ounces of sugar per gallon for an increase of 0.005 SG, so I will use that to get back up from 1 to 1.015.
