    Of taps and vessels

Having gone through the process once of transferring from FV to Barrel with the use of a syphon tube it strikes me that there's a better way of doing it. Do people have taps at the bottom of there FVs or is there a reason not to do this. Obviously there is the issue of sediment, but that seemed...

    hello people

    I'm in Woodbridge.

    It's in the barrel :)

My first brew has been transferred from FV to barrel, along with the priming sugar. But there's one thing bothering me. How do I know if its alright, and that it's doing what it should be? Do I just have to leave it now and hope for the best? Worried of Woodbridge.

    Have I killed it?

That's actually a reflection of my wife's collection of books on death and stuff. She's a bit odd!

    Have I killed it?

Does this look poorly or am I worrying unduly? It's been in the FV for a week now, it started warm, but has now cooled to 17 degrees. Bubbles are still rising but only about 20 or 30 a minute.

Where can I find Good Clean Fun 101?

Is there a cleaning and sanitation FAQ anywhere? Is this even in the right section? I've had a look round and haven't stummbled across any threads on cleaning (I'm obviously looking in the wrong parts!) The questions I've got at the moment are: What's the best sterilisation method? What's the...

    Sealing the pressure barrel

Hopefully some time soon my ferment will finish, but in the meantime I'm getting ready for the transfer to the barrel. One thing I've noticed is that many people recommend a smear of Vaseline on the lid thread to aid sealing. Being a bit of an awkward sod 8-) , I wondered why use a messy...

    A question of specific gravity

I'm currently brewing a Woodforde Nelsons Revenge, which as you may recall I pitched a little warm. Now, the brew is still fermenting, though maybe a bit slowly, and I have today tested it with my new fangled hydrometer for the first time. It's currently about 1018 is, so it's not there...

Help. How hot can I put my yeast in?

I pitched at 28c, which according to most of you was too hot :( I had an early start this am (on train to London as I type, isn't technology a wonderful thing :) ) It still seems to be alive this morning, so follow up questions if I may. Have I screwed it completely? What are the dangers of a...

Help. How hot can I put my yeast in?

First brew is in the bin, minus the yeast. It's currently at 30 deg C How cool do I NEED it to be before I pitch (see tha, I'm using a brewing term ;) ) my yeast? Or how long will it take to get down to 24 degrees? I need to go to bed :(

    Too late for Christmas?

OK, seems that where theres a will :) But, an added complication... The said brew will need to be transported to Yorkshire on the Thursday. Assuming I let it do it's own thing until then, can I fine it when I get there and expect a drinkable beer the following day? Or am I just expecting too much?

    Too late for Christmas?

I'm open to suggestions. I only chose Werry because a) I know the beer, b) was told the kit is good c) have to start somewhere. If it needs longer in the barrel for conditioning, it's probably not the best choice as I've three discerning beer drinkers who will be partaking of the brew, who won't...

    Too late for Christmas?

Am I too late to start a brew for drinking at Christmas? I intend to start of nice and easy with a Woodford Werry kit. Still not got my kit yet, but as I live only a few miles up the road form Colchester Homebrew shop, I thought I might sneak out of work on Monday and nip down there :) Was...

    hello people

Well hello people, just short note to hello Beardy obviously isn't my real name, its Paul. I live in the back of beyond in Suffolk, about 10 miles or so from the coast (this week, the way the east cost is being eroded around here it could be a lot closer very soon!) It's about 20 years since my...
