    Lager without lagering?

There is also an alternative of using the Mauri strain that is provided under "Young's lager yeast" name and I am informed by them that this strain will ferment a nice taste at 14c :thumb:

    AG#32 - Kurgan's Candy (a Belgian with Duvel yeast)

I think it keeps relatively well if frozen as I remember :wha: an article on the net stated last year. Whilst all are on the scent after a lusciouse trail left by Kurgan's Candy has anyone made a white Chimay clone successfully? Cheers, Cwrw

    Batch Prime your Bottling

This is true, however I have done this a few times in the past and after a period of 2-4 hours to settle it's been ok (with slightly less clarity), though I must point out if you leave it any more what you'll find is that the beer would have begun to carbonate and it will make your bottling a...

Water treatment - made reasonably simple

So for the fully unitiated wanting to adopt good practice from the start, if I buy myself one of these kits I can look at the readings and adjust the alkalinity with the kit (with no need to convert readings) to the alkalinity of the desired beer style which is in mgs? Whilst I'm at it if I need...

Water treatment - made reasonably simple

Regarding Salifert home test kit - I've noted there are different types for sale on the web, could anyone specifiy the named kit and also does the kit perform acurate PH values to allow correct adjustment of water (or do I need to buy PH paper also). Cheers, Cwrw

ANY ASSISTANCE GRATELY APPRECIATED (as I have'nt got a clue!) I've got my local water supplier to give me some info, but can someone straighten out what I need for my adjustments and what to add with the following in mind (for lager and belgium ales): 1.68 degree Clark or 1.34 degree German...

    Youngs yeast is just evil.

Hi, I have been in contact with Young's and have been given the following information regarding their LAGER YEAST,which I thought would be helpful to the forum : Best to ferment at 15C then lagering at 4-5C is fine but will take many weeks. Fermenting at 15C will produce good lager flavour...

    Filter and re-seed

Hi, Has anyone out there adopted filtering from the primary and then re- seeding and priming before bottling to get a clearer beer (with small sediment)...and if so is it possible to re-seed a strong ale with a weaker generic yeast for secondary. I'm thinking of cool conditioning in 15l batches...

    Youngs yeast is just evil.

Talk about timing - I was about to post a message asking about a Young's Lager yeast that I've found in a local store. It states that it is a proper bottom fermenter (no not sh1t) - would this do for lagers of different types (+pilsners) or would it ruin a brew. Please comment if anyone's used it...

    Igloo coolmax as masher

Just tested the Masher and it held 20l of water for 2 hours 30 minutes with an initial drop of 10C in the first minute, then 3c over the duration (test temp 71c down to 68c) - this should mean a good heat retention at 66c for 90 minutes in cooler weather. :D

    Plumbing

Many thanks for the replies; I know now which way to go from this point  However I have noted that a producer of an assembled set-up ballvalve system for HB seems to have the threaded part on the inside and the smooth part connected to the pipe and ballvalve on the outside :wha:

    Plumbing

Cheers DJ. Here's a stupid question - with plumbing "compression tank connectors", I presume that the flange with the two dimples sits on the outside of the tank ?? :wha: I was thinking in the future to parhaps try to connect (to a coolbox) one of these to a tiny 15mm outer tube and connect a...

    Igloo coolmax as masher

Done the business .....ran some near boiling water into it and it seems ok and has 850ml deadspace. Considering my problem with the coolbox model I reckon it's a reasonable turnout, but do comment if I'm better off with another method. Cwrw

    Igloo coolmax as masher

Cheers for the uptake  I've taken on board what you're saying DJ, and I've found the inner rubber hose of the steel water pipe (which I easily presume is consumption grade)that I butchered for the filter. What I've done now is lodged this a tight quarter of an inch up the inside of the...
