    Boadicea's Return

Hi, I only run the pump on electric so not really an issue but thanks for the advise anyway :-) It's a boiler heat exchanger with 1/2" hosetail fittings. I did manage to modify one without threaded fittings with male 3/8" bspt brass to 1/2" hosetails using a little silicone sealer to make it...

    Boadicea's Return

Hi Brew! Yes both the wort and the cooling water were gravity fed. I did use the pump to fill the HLT for sparging though just to try it out. I got 68% brewhouse efficiency which I'm happy enough with. I'm still sparging too quickly though so will pay attention to this next brewday.

    Boadicea's Return

I've taken to using 2 11g packs per FV as the couple of times I've done it the main fermentation seems to be over in around 36 hrs. It only adds a couple more quid to the overall cost so what the heck.

    R.I.P.

Life is such a bitch! Lost My Dad 6th April this year so know how You must feel. Brew on Buzz and I'm sure that the secret ingredient 'Love' will make it one to savour. I'll sink a pint of My IRS tonight for them both! BZ

Installing ball valves in Thermobox and stock pots.

I've been busy fitting some 15mm ball valves to My latest project. The gap between the inner and outer skins on the TB seems to be 25mm on both the 50L and 80L versions. I did not need to use the flanged nut at all. Hole on inner skin is made with a 22mm holesaw. Hole on outer skin is...

    Bottles V Keg

I have never really bottled a lot of My beer cus I can't wait long enough for it to come into condition. However the one time when I lagered some lagerish brew I did and stored it in the cellar for around three months I swear it was the best thing I'd ever tasted. Corny kegging all beers at...

    What's your earliest memory?

My earliest memory is wondering what the bright yellow/black buzzing thing was and cupping it in My hand. I was in swaddling clothes and fortunately don't remember the pain. Funny but wasps don't really bother Me and I don't have a fear of them now !

    Virgin Media woes

When My Dad died in April We cancelled the Set Top Box subscription as it was only He that really watched it any way. Do you know the cheeky *astar$ on the phone said "They would take Him to court and give Him a County Court Judgement for late payment" I've made a complaint and have heard...

    Are my elements knackered?

Well I've brewed with a less than perfect element in the past and I'm still here to tell the tale

    Are my elements knackered?

I once made the mistake of putting all My bits and bobs I used on brewday into the boiler after cleaning and drying it. I stored things between brewdays in there. Seemed a safe place to keep them. Problem was I also put the tub of sodium met in there as well. It is sealed but some sulphur...

    Are my elements knackered?

Evening Wez  This is the reason I moved to LPG. I've replaced one too many elements and they usually threw a fit during the boil. I just have to make sure I've always got gas on hand which I do using two bottles. When one empties it goes back and I get a refill. I can't brew in...
