Help! I may have ruined my first ever brew!

A few years back I got my mate into brewing kits and the first thing I told him was to throw the instructions away. 2 weeks later whilst I was bottling my brew he asked "when do I put the sugar in"? LOL 2 weeks later his beer tasted better than any kit I had ever made You'll be fine
