Thanks for your reply's, but if you put the top back on does this not stop the air escaping? and make it more likely to blow?

Hi all I have just bought 2 Youngs handy airlocks like these ones http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/index.php ... l-2-s.html I have been used to the other bubbly airlocks and was woundering how do these work? do i put the top back on them when i have filled them with water? and do i fill them all...

thats a cracking idea!! are you on about glass pop bottles or plastic ones?? and how much sugar would i need to put in them??

Hi all i am getting into home brewing again after a year or so off....i want to do lager like i used too but hating bottling and never really got to grips with using barrels as my pints always came out flat even with gas! I have noticed this in my local home brew shop...

oh on a side note i really want to get into lager again, i noticed in the home brew shop they have a mini keg barrel starter kits, bascially its 5 mini kegs with bungs and you just zap a bullet of gas into them, much easier than botlting i guess. Have you seen these and are they any good? they...

yes the vodka kits makes about 20% and the little bottle is basically a flavoring and it does say on the bottle and ill quote lol "pur the contents of this bottle and 180 gramms of granualted sugar into a 75cl bottle.. Fill 3/4 full with alcohol and shake until the sugar has disolved. top us...

wow many thanks for your quick reply, so the 5 gallon will be ok then? thats eased my mind i just did not know weather the bubbles would still come out of the air lock with there being such a big gap. Oddly enough you have kinda made me think of another question mate.....i have actually bought...
