    small brew lengths help

One last thing - is it ok to use washing machine taps on the hlt- i have ordered some 15mm lever ball valve things, as everyone else seems to use these, although the washing machine taps are smaller and more compact and would fit the 15 ltr buckets better. what are peoples opinions on this, is...

    small brew lengths help

great thanks - just found 5 15 ltr buckets for £15 - so can pack them away neatly but also ferment different recipes without too much worry over getting them wrong! One element it is then - less holes to leak! thanks

    small brew lengths help

Hello again, and time for another stupid question, As we are thinking of moving soon i am being curtailed on my home brew plans - so i have decided on a compromise and build a small AG one (using 15 ltr buckets) for starters and to get my head around brewing (also keep the misses on side - small...

    Tea Urns or plastic boilers

ah great - these look quite good - now then decisions decisions! I had spotted these blue things before, but were unsure about them handling heat. At that sort of liquid volume how long does it take to get up to speed and boil for? Anone elses opinions always accepted, got a wedding coming up...

    Tea Urns or plastic boilers

Also - as in a previous post i was told i needed to get a boiler around 40l to produce in the region of 25l beer (my aim was around 50 500ml botles - but anything over 40 will do), i can't seem to find may urns that get to this size - so what are the quantities people are brewing with these...

    Tea Urns or plastic boilers

I was about to start hacking up tesco kettles and buckets, but then discovered second hand burco boilers etc (which are shiny!). Now i have a few questions. I have read the discussions on here regarding tea urns and knocking out the thermostat to get a constant boil, but do they give as good a...

    Best To Start With ?

Good grief! - i think i'll start a little smaller than that - i think i may have a few issues with trying to convince the other half about that amount of equipment - although as i said in my initial plans, when i sell this house the paln is to build a shed brewery (and of course a tap room), so...

    Best To Start With ?

thanks, so for around 40 litres for a boiler. and 20 litres for mash tun? - from my understanding this would be just 1 sparge (batch sparge) I still have some searching to do on this forum regarding sparging but how do you know how much to sparge - ie if i don't sparge enough will the flavour...

    Best To Start With ?

Hello again more numb questions. I am planning on Batch sparging as it looks simpler and less intensive on equipment. So what are the volumes of vessels i require? My aim is to make enough for about 50 500ml bottles (i will appologise at this point as i realise alot of people work in...

    Best To Start With ?

Ok so i think i'm settled on AG. Can i just get this straight, what i need (in terms of large stuff) is: Mash tun (I'm sure i have seen a fermentation bucket with a load of insulation on - will this work? as this is what i'm thinking of) Boiler (prob make that myself from a polyprop bucket some...

    Best To Start With ?

I realise this has probably already been covered elsewher, but i can't find it so i'd thought i'd just ask. Typically, is it best to start off (being totally new to brewing) with extract or All grain? I am not interested in kit and all grain appeals to the tinkerer in me - so i can adjust...
