How to use the Tesco Value kettle heating element

Hello again, I hope i can articulate this query. I am about to cut out and fit the silicone washer as mentioned above, which has got me wondering where is best to fit it. It is going to go inside the rim of the original tesco one to make up for my bucket's thinner wall. would those who know...

How to make the most of your beer kit

I am considering getting a kit on the go to last me until i have an AG set up that works. I was thinking of dry hopping too. Basically i have a 30ish ltr (27, 28 or 29 - i only measured it to 26 so i know it holds more) FV which i have used for a few turbo ciders, and a number of 15 litre...

How to use the Tesco Value kettle heating element

Thanks Big Yin - yes it is the wall thickness i meant, i have tightened it to what appears to be its limit but it still feels a little loose (i can turn the element round from the outside of the barrel fairly easily) - i think it is watertight when cold, what i was questioning is if it would be...

    leaking elements help please

great, thanks - i'll give that a try then. one other thing - i am yet to attach the tank connector for the tap, but it came with a rubber washer that i have used in my mash tun, but will this fail or impart weird flavours in a boiler?? Cheers

How to use the Tesco Value kettle heating element

This is a brilliant how to - i have followed it and built my first kettle, its only a 15 tr one (as at the moment i only want to brew about 10 ltrs at a time - i say 'want', what i really mean is that is all i'm allowed as i have very little space and need to fit everything on to one shelf - but...

    leaking elements help please

I have just made a small boiler with only one element (its only a 15 ltr bucket - for 10 ltr brew lengths) but the element (tesco value kettle) seems a little loose - i have not tested it yet but think i would prefer to tighten it up with something - what Aleman suggests seems the easiest, but...

    Issues with turbo cider

Just racked off the cider last night, bit of a random brew this with absolutely no planning. added some elderflowers to it on saturday then boiled some sultanas that i found we had and added them. on initial tasting it looks promising, more elderflowery than i meant but still not too much. I...

    Issues with turbo cider

Ace, have been fermenting now for nearly a week still bubbling away, but am tempted to chuck some raisins or sultanas in and see what happens. Do you need to boil them? Cheers

    Issues with turbo cider

Great thanks sorry for the delay i replying keep forgetting my password. I think i'll follow the 'dry hopping' approach, but not over flavour, just a hint. Theres not going to be anything in the elderfloweres that is going to restart fermentation is there? just don't want bottle bombs as i am...

    Issues with turbo cider

Cheers, i have some campden tablets, but no sodium metabisulphate - so may give that a go and see what happens, don't want it to be particularly noticeable as elderflower, just a note to improve the overall flavour, just don't want 26 ltrs of nastiness. also don't want any of the campden stuff...

    Issues with turbo cider

Got my 3rd TC on the go yesterday. First one was really quite good - i made 23 litres and drank most of it quite quickly, but stashed some bottles away for a couple of months and the difference ageing made was quite astonishing, and my second attempt was a gallon of ginger TC -which i over...

    LLDPE plastic tubing suitability

My work has replaced its water boilers so i have liberated the leftover plastic piping and plastic taps and push fittings that connected the old boilers (i say old - about 2 years old) to the water supply so i am wondering what i can do with these - could i use them as a chiller or pumping hoses...

    Issues with turbo cider

Hi Thanks, I guess thats the way to go - the only thing is that i have been saving galss bottles for ages and have loads - plastic on the other hand, i have none - which i'm fine buying, probably just a bit of snobbery, but i always felt that drinbksd in glass are better. I was just wondering...

    Issues with turbo cider

Hi all, as i have been trawling round the forum i've read about champagne yeast being quite highly carbonated, and priming causing bottle bombs (but not both together) - i would like to bottle condition the tc but am quite paranoid about bottle bombs, should i bottle it with crown caps without...

    Issues with turbo cider

Also - will i be ok putting this in to standard real ale type bottles - quite thick ones (like the old cains ones and 3 bees) - should i prime it a little if i have used champagne yeast? Thanks again Matt

    Issues with turbo cider

Great thanks, Like i say this is my first time brewing so i don't really know what to expect, at the moment the 18 ltrs is in a vessell thats about 26 litrs or so big, but it has a small screw on cap - this would be difficult to get hydrometer reading from. whould there be less bubling if there...

    Issues with turbo cider

I decided yesterday to have a go at turbocider having never brewed before (got a mini micro brewery on the build), and i'm affraid i am not great at following instructions so please let me know if i have b*ggered it up. My main issue is that it does not appear to be bubbling. Basically all i...
