    Coopers Stout

For my own records - bottled this yesterday @ 1008 FG using half a teaspoon of demerara sugar for each bottle.

    Coopers Stout

I'm using this forum as a bit of a brew log, here is kit brew #4. Brewed this today using 1KG medium DME from wilkos. I have two cans of this kit so was looking for something straightforward for the first run then I can add demerara sugar and a can of treacle to the second batch once I have a...

    Woodfordes Sundew

Bottled this today with half a teaspoon of Demerara sugar. Smelt quite pleasant although it did look very light en route to the bottle. FG was 1005 which makes it 4.6% but I think a reading must have been off somewhere as I thought this was meant to be a <4.0% brew. I'll sit on this one until...

    Woodfordes Sundew

I haven't experimented with it this time, I'm not quite that bold yet. Reading reviews, people say this lacked some of the hoppy bite of other woodfordes kits so it sounds like your additions will be welcomed. I think the advert was Smirnoff Ice? I've searched youtube for a link but can't find...

    Woodfordes Sundew

I kicked this off this morning and the house is smelling delicious! Want to get a couple of brews ready for my sons first birthday in June and hoping this and the Admirals Reserve will be a good selection for our guests. Brewed to 23L SG 1040. Learning from my other brews I wanted to give this...

    Woodfordes Wherry Brew 2

Bottled this today. It is in indoor storage now for a couple of weeks the outdoors. Moved my Canadian Blonde outdoors today too, hopefully a couple more weeks and it will be there. Now to decide what goes in next, I'm thinking the stout with DME and treacle.

    First brew, coopers Canadian blonde

Cheers, I'll get it outside and wait for a few more weeks!

    First brew, coopers Canadian blonde

Just tried this tonight. It's been conditioning for around 2 weeks at room temperature (20 degrees C). Chilled it in the fridge for an hour before serving. It was crystal clear, poor head retention but appeared to be well carbonated. I primed it with carbonation drops one per 500ml bottle. My...

    Woodfordes Wherry Brew 2

Thanks. Great suggestion got a few round here that have ridden out the recession so I will ask about. I took another SG reading and down to 1010 so it looks like I'm not going to suffer from the "Stuck" brew that a lot of people have had. Pleased with how this one is progressing. Sample smelt...

    Woodfordes Wherry Brew 2

So with all the Wherry stalling that has been going on for others I thought I would take a quick hydrometer reading to check progress. SG is down to 1015 so making good progress and no sign of stalling. I ordered another 48 coopers PET bottles from Tesco to help bottle this. Going to keep it in...

    Woodfordes Wherry Brew 2

God knows, I can only assume it is a combination of the light and the camera on my phone. You can see from the other pics it was the right colour! Beer does appear lighter when you draw a sample but I appreciate the photo makes it look a little extreme!! Just checked on it, its fermenting...

    Woodfordes Wherry Brew 2

Nice sunday morning brew today of the Woodfordes Wherry. Took some pictures along the way, it looked great and can't wait to give it a try in February/March time. Step 1: Warming up the wort Step 2: Mixing with the ~3L boiling water Step 3: Bring up to 23L with cool water, temp approx 23...

    First brew, coopers Canadian blonde

Bottled this tonight. Looked good, a little cloudy and smelt like beer which is aways a good sign. I didn't want to try it so I will wait six or so weeks. Its back in the cupboard for the first two weeks then out to the shed. Looking forward to it. FG 1009. On to the next one.... :D

    First brew, coopers Canadian blonde

So I removed the krausen collar from the brew on day 4, now day 6 and took an SG reading. It read 1012 which I am pleased about. That makes the brew 4.2% already and it could still ferment further. The sample smelled good, a slight fruitiness about it and definite smell of alcohol. I'm off for...

    First brew, coopers Canadian blonde

So I've just finished my first brew, a Canadian blonde which came out with an OG of 1044 brewed short to 20.5L. It is now sat in the cupboard under the stairs brewing away. I'm off for a short break for 3 days, hopefully leaving the brew will be ok. Excited to watch it progress.

Getting started a couple of questions

Thanks, I was in the Bristol Wilko's yesterday and it appeared to have a fairly small but well stocked homebrew section. There are also a couple of homebrew stores in Bristol but I haven't had a chance to visit yet. The first kit comes with BE1 (canadian blonde) but for the stout I might pick up...

Getting started a couple of questions

Thanks for your help Eddie. Much appreciated. I'll try and get one of the two can kits going before I head back to work after the xmas break. Looking forward to it!
