    Wurzel production increasing

I tried the plastic stirring paddle in the drill. With hilarious consequences. The long bendy handle meant it flapped about uncontrollably. Would have made one hell of a mess if I had tried to aerate wort with it! Would be fine if it is a metal handled spoon though...! :thumb:

Now thats a vigorous fermentation....!!!! Cleaned up and fitted a blow-off tube.

    New Fermentation Fridge

Yes - I've been looking for one like this for a while. Decent ones on freecycle/gumtree etc. get snapped up so quickly so was lucky to get this.

    New Fermentation Fridge

Was going to brew this week but it's way too hot (even up here in Scotland), and my old chest freezer which I used with an ATC800 thermostat had terminal failure recently. I struck lucky with Gumtree though today and managed to get the first phonecall in to bag this excellent size larder...

    Wurzel production increasing

Yes - I fear this is a slippery slope indeed.... It's much more satisfying producing a larger quantity somehow. :thumb:

    Wurzel production increasing

The paint mixer works really really well - so much easier than doing it by hand. Should also work for degassing as well I think...

    Wurzel production increasing

Due to my last Wurzels getting a big thumbs up by the missus and others who have tried it, I am scaling up my Wurzels production - this time a rose with red grape concentrate..... Ingredients Sugar dissolving 5 gallons in the fermenter My new mixer/aerater (paint stirrer drill attachment)...

    Gorse Flower Wurzels

Thats it racked again, and topped up with some pinot grigio to remove the headspace in the DJ. Clearing fast with the finings. Will filter, sweeten and bottle at the weekend.

    5 Weeks in fermenter

Don't worry. It will be fine. I've left kit beers on the yeast for longer than that and they have been absolutely fine for it.

    Gorse Flower Wurzels

I'm no expert but I guess if it says top up to 1 gall and you go to 5 litres then it's going to be a bit dilute. I tell you this though, that kit Pinot Grigio that's been sat for months with a lot of headspace in the demi tastes pretty good. No signs of oxidation that I can detect. It's the...

    Gorse Flower Wurzels

Thanks for the advice. The wurzel will only be like that or a week or 2 before it's in a bottle. The kit wine has lost a lot at each racking. If I'd topped it up at each racking it would be even lower alcohol by now ;-) Hopefully the wurzel will be fine but I suspect the kit wine will be not...

    Gorse Flower Wurzels

Well the pinot grigio on the right has been like that for a couple of months. Plan to bottle this weekend. The wurzel on the left was just racked off sediment a few days ago. Just waiting to clear and bottle. Is it bad practice to leave them with too much airspace (ie not topped up to the neck)...

    Gorse Flower Wurzels

Here it is (on the left), racked stabilised and just added finings. Not tasting any of the coconut flavour from the gorse. Maybe it will come through a bit in the finished wine.

    Sight tube kits

Yes they were from Airflow. I got very quick and efficient service from them too. :thumb: I ordered the part at lunchtime and had it by the next day. Andy

    Sight tube kits

I ended up just buying the bits as per Vossys "HowTo" and installed a tube donated by Dunfie. Very pleased with how it works in a reinforced plastic fermenter. Top of the tube tucks neatly under the lip of the rim, so no need for a connection at the top either. Ideal.

Due to a smashed hydrometer - I have no idea! :-)

    Gorse Flower Wurzels

It's on day 5 - has a fantastic yellow colour from the gorse syrup. And here are the very flowers it was made from:
