    Would I be right in thinking, that you simply pour the beer away and then pour the yeast/trub into the fermenting bin with the new wort?

    Brewing software

    I use Qbrew on Linux and there's a version available for Mac and Windows. Not as good as Beer engine as it doesn't show %, but other than that it's fine.

    Using Munich yeast for normal bitter

    Online co have mistakenly sent me a Munich Wheat yeast instead of Nottingham. Any issue with using this in a normal AG bitter? Can't be bothered with the hassle of sending it back for exchange tbh. Just wondered what pitfalls I may encounter using it on a non wheat brew.

    I brewed this yesterday but my OG was only 1.052, but that was because my mash temp dropped like a stone - 63c after an hour. Ended up adding a couple of litres of boiling water and got it up to 65 for the final hour. Doing the recipe from the Graham Wheller's book today. Got extra insulation...

    Well, I've just sampled my first bottle. Probably not as good as the recipe suggested, but considering I lost about 3-5L of wort and had to add extra water due to the mishap :oops: during the boil, I'm rather pleased with it. :thumb:

    Can it really be this simple?

    Before I embarked on the hobby, I was under the false impression that it was complicated. Once you sit down and read about it though it becomes a straight forward enough exercise. I tend to brew on a Friday evening now, gives me chance to get some weekly chores done also, and thus freeing up...

    Ruined Wherry

    As Moley says, don't give up yet because of the vinegar smell. I've had extract brews that I've dry hopped and they stank to high heaven - more like Sarsons than Ale. 4 weeks later after bottling it was lovely.

    Well that's it bottled. Got a horrible feeling though that it may all end up down the sink. Whilst racking to my bottling bucket, I caught sight of a midge just over the FV. Hope the blighter hadn't been for a dip! :roll:

    1st sample taken last night and it's reading 1.008 and same again tonight. I let the SWMBO have tonight's sample and in her words, "That's bluddy lovely. It tastes like you should be sat in a beer garden with it" :party: Bottling tomorrow. Not one for wishing my life away but looking forward...

    bottling up

    I'm with you on that one marra. I even tried 40g the last couple of brews, but I may go up to 60g coz I tend to drink the lower gassy ale faster, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just run out faster!

    @Cononthebarber - have a good one. with the exception of the 2 hour mis hap i thoroughly enjoyed the experience. another one planned in a fortnight. @rich27500 - it was your walkthrough with pictures that got me in to the BIAB idea so thanks mate :cheers: because of where the element is...

    All done inc clean up. OG was 1.042 at 26C - I'll work the calibrated reading tomorrow, can't be aris'd right now. QBrew had the OG at 1.047, but considering the mis-hap and the extra 3L of water pitched, I can take that on my first attempt. Right, time for feet up and a beer me thinks. :cheers:
