    Plumbing conundrum

As you can see I've insulated the roof, put Lino down, the temp controller came for the fridge. The photo doesn't do it justice. I don't know if you can make out on top of the cooler Mash Tun my solar pump with dimmer switch to transfer from the boiler to fermenter. Just Drainage to do, and fit...

    Plumbing conundrum

I was thinking of using the same silicone tubing that I'm using on my gear., hooking it up just for brewdays. When I'm not using it I'll store it rolled up, anything that gets inside will get flushed out before I start. It gets heated to 80c anyway which will kill most things. My system can get...

    Extractor fan

That's a nice set-up danb. I do like the idea of a cooker hood, I'll keep my eyes on Fleabay for one. Perhaps I could make one fit somehow. Definitely looks the part. That's my mind made up I reckon. Thanks for the replies fellas. Happy New year to all.

    Extractor fan

I did look at those aamcle but I'm not sure they would be powerful enough. I did see somewhere someone using two together perhaps that's the way forward. There's so many types to choose from. I'm watching an inline one on the 'Bay, but I think i've been put off that now. No doubt something'll...

    Plumbing conundrum

Well here it is. Looks like a dogs dinner but it works and is leak free! Tap on the left is for the HLT, centre one the chiller, 15 mm pipe on left, supply to the sink and underneath is the drain for the sink. HLT Tap (the black bucket isn't my HLT before anyone asks) The outside terminals...

    Extractor fan

My options are 1. The window thing, 2. 4 casters and a bit of wood and wheel the boiler to the door and 3. An extractor fan of some description. I would like the latter but I agree about the water. Aren't these fans inherently water proof to some degree because of the humidity in the rooms they...

    Extractor fan

Hi fellas, I'm still trying to move my gear into my shed. It's only 10' x 6' and coming along nicely. Electrics are in, all plumbing (including a sink) is done part from linking to main drain all thanks to you fine chaps and I've laid some Lino and partially insulated the walls. Probably won't...

    Plumbing conundrum

Hi, fella's Right, I've settled on an outside tap kit. My theory being that water doesn't necessarily have to flow out of the tap. Got a hose connector for the tap and I'll put a short piece of 15mm copper pipe into the circuit inside using the JG connectors unless I can plumb it in properly...

    Plumbing conundrum

Thanks for the ideas fella's. I know B&Q's not the best but I'm doing the job today hopefully. I need some kind of bulkhead fitting to fit to the shed. Anyway I'm now off to baffle myself even more!! I'm sure I'm making it more complicated than it is.

    Plumbing conundrum

Hi Guys, Just (possibly) a quick question. I'm moving my brewing gear to my shed. Built a stand, got the electrics in and bought a fridge and temp controller etc, now for the plumbing. I've bought some 15mm plastic pipe and what I think I need in speed fittings to plumb the chiller and the HLT...

    Show us your brewery

This is my brewing gear set up in my This is where I'm up to now, moving it all into my shed. I've got everything where I want it. Electrics are in, and plumbing. Temperature control for the fermenting fridge has arrived and an extractor hood for the boiler to fit then I've got to dig...

    Copper Immersion chiller

That's a good point. I'm going to put my idea to rest I think and carry on as I was.

    Copper Immersion chiller

I never thought about the hops, I use a hop spider contraption with a nylon bag so the chiller would get in the way of that I suppose. I usually take the hops out as I put the chiller in. My chiller is a double coil so there's quite a bit of copper in the wort. Perhaps I could come up with some...

    Copper Immersion chiller

I'm just in the middle of moving my all-grain gear into my shed. I've got everything in place pretty much and now I'm just planning my plumbing. Up to now I've been putting my immersion chiller into my boiler 15-20 minutes before the end of the boil as you do, but would there be any problems...

How to use the Tesco Value kettle heating element - mark II

I've got the same thing, an unused immersion heater circuit but it's upstairs so I'll have to get an extension and up to now I'm going to use the cooker circuit I reckon. So I've upgraded my cables to thick electric hook-up cable and I'm just waiting for some Maplins heat resistant kettle plugs...

    Electrical problem

Hi, thanks I'll give it a try. I've already done 8 or 9 brews on this setup so it can't be any worse. There's an RCD in my fuse box if there's any dramas. The 1.0mm's been relegated back to the shed. Definitely got 2 separate ring circuits and a beefier cable so if that doesn't sort it out...

How to use the Tesco Value kettle heating element - mark II

Hi, Where are you getting your power from? I built a HLT and boiler last year exactly like this but the cables are getting hot. Ruined one socket and one plug over about 9 brews. I only use 2 elements at a time on different circuits with proper unwound extension cable ( before anyone asks)...

    Electrical problem

Brilliant thanks for the reply. I'd already found two ring circuits to use, one's the cooker one and the other used to be for the immersion heater upstairs. I've got some 16 amp camping electric hook-up cable that I could try (?) I've got some flat grey cable but it's only 1mm and says suitable...

    Electrical problem

All the plugs etc are wired properly and I didn't just pick up any old piece of wire, I used a proper extension lead. I said i don't know much about electrics not "i'm stupid!" I'm Just trying to run a 2 kettle elements for 90 minutes. Knowing that the cables get warm I monitor them...

    Electrical problem

Hi Cable and plugs get warm and only 2 elements are in use at one time. The extension was a proper 13amp extension lead, I wouldn't use just anything but it wasn't the best quality I don't suppose.
