    Malt in Suffolk

Hi, guys Anyone any idea if and where I can buy 25 kg sacks of malt in Suffolk or Norfolk? I live about 5 miles from the Muntons factory and about 4 or 5 miles from the Norfolk border and I buy my malt from the Malt Miller in Swindon! Now, I have no problem at all with this because as far...

    Wow wine plz help!

Hi, I tend to ferment beer and wine with a blow off tube. A rubber bung with a piece of siphon tube running into a milk bottle or something with boiled water or sterilising solution in. You could always put an airlock on after a day or so as the fermentation subsides.

    Corny cleaning

Ashbeck spring water from Tesco, 7.5ml of Starsan in 5l for swilling around and 1.5 ml in a litre spray bottle does the trick for anything else. I use a plastic syringe to measure and once I've swilled I funnel it back into the gallon bottle. Lasts ages. ( that's what it tells you to do on here...

    Bazooka

Thanks for the replies! Just read loads about bazooka type filters blocking. They're obviously a bit of a joke on the unsuspecting inexperienced brewer. I can't afford to be messing about with blocked filters halfway through a brew so I'm going back to my spider. I'm going to try a false...

    Bazooka

I'll possibly answer my own question here! As the title says, I bought a bazooka hop filter a couple of years ago when I first started AG and the first time I used it it blocked so it went straight in the bin. I then moved to a hop spider which has been brilliant but it means a bit of juggling...

2mm or 4mm holes for copper hop stopper?

Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread but has anyone used this with a solar pump? (Braided hose I mean) I've just made one to use instead of a hop spider and I'm a bit apprehensive because a couple of years ago I used a bought a ready made hop filter which was made from a short length of...

    Coffee wine?

It was an incarnation of the CJJ Berry book I used. The other book I was thinking about was where I got a recipe for Carrot Whisky from. Now that was a corker! COFFEE WINE Instant coffee 15g sugar 1kg Citric Acid 15g Water to 4.5 litres Ammonium phosphate ( Nutrient, 1 tsp or as per...

    Coffee wine?

This post has spurred me into having another go at a coffee wine. I remember brewing it when I was 17, quite nice as I remember but then again anything with alcohol in was at the time. I remember it being really easy to make with granulated coffee and oranges and lemons etc I'd bought a...

    Efficiencies

Hi, I found a post by AKbrewer on Mash efficiency in which there was quite a good explanation of how to calculate said efficiencies. ( I'd post a link if I only knew how!) viewtopic.php?p=431938#p431938 Hopefully that'll work. I've got an office app on my iPad like Excel in which I've made a...

    Efficiencies

Thanks for the replies fella's. So from that I deduce that everyone uses an online calculator or some kind of Beersmith type program to work it out? No-one actually does it on paper? I've got Beersmith but haven't got around to using it yet. I'd like to learn how to do it longhand first if...

    Efficiencies

Hi Guys, I'm having a few dramas finding out how to calculate my efficiencies. I'm probably looking in the wrong places but on here it's mentioned loads so it can't be as difficult as i seem to think it is. I've been using my gear for a couple of years now and I know all my losses etc and have...

enhancer, spray malt, wheat spray malt???

Right, it's had a couple of weeks in the cold and I've just finished a swift pint. The hops are definitely there in smell and taste, it's slightly over carbonated for me using one of the Coopers carb drops in 500ml flip top bottles. Not too bitter and hopefully the malt will come through a bit...

enhancer, spray malt, wheat spray malt???

I left it for a fortnight to ferment out then dry hopped it for a week in the primary. Just bottled it and it was at 1011 so that's about 3.9% so I'll leave it for a week inside then 6 to 8 weeks as advised before I try it. I was a bit disappointed with 3.9% but it tasted fine, none of the...

enhancer, spray malt, wheat spray malt???

I've got this on at the minute. Someone in the "kit review" bit used 1kg of spraymalt with this kit and I think a hop tea and was very happy with the result but I'm using 1 kg of light spraymalt and a Better Brew Finishing hops Challenger tea bag to dry hop for a week. I might have made a boo...

Quick fermentation fridge question - probe in wort or not?

I get that, but the people who stick the probe on the outside of the FV covered with some kind of insulation (including me) seem happy enough with the control it gives them. That's why there's an F4 temp calibration on a STC1000 or have I got that completely wrong?

Quick fermentation fridge question - probe in wort or not?

I've been reading up about this for a while now and my new brew-fridge is ready for my brewday tomorrow. With this hobby it's easy to get anal about tiny details and the devil's in them I suppose but considering I've been fermenting in my living room, the brew-fridge with it's the stable...

    Extractor fan

Sorry, great idea but my arms too short and pockets too deep for those heat exchanger thingies. Cost more than my shed! That's a classy looking bit of kit dreyman. I've committed myself to a cooker hood off EBay not 15 minutes ago just down the road. I hope I've made the right decision. I like...
