First Brew - Kegged - Lively

You now need to master the art of the pour  Just crack the tap open and let it dribble out into the glass. It may take a couple of minute to do that, then towards the end open the tap a little more to give it a bit of a blast to form a nice head on your pint. :thumb: Well thats what...

    First Problem Brew

Cheers Eggman. Looked at it again today and it seems to have dropped to 1.018. So given it another long gentle stir hoping to get it to continue to drop. Nice yeasty smell coming from it.

    First Problem Brew

Hi All, After two years of brewing kits I finally have one that appears to be stuck. Looking for a little advice to ensure I'm taking the right steps. Brew is a Nelson's Revenge and was started on the 25th Oct OG 1.046. it has been bubbling away at a temp of 23 deg C and I noticed on Friday...

    Newby fermentation worries

Glad to hear it  Brewing belts I suppose are horses for courses, but much like Green Ninja I have one and would not be without it. I use mine in along with a timer to control how much heat the belts gives to the brew. I always put by belt at the bottom of the brew as I believe...

Need help. Barrel leaking – I don’t know what to do.

Sorry to hear the news Rich. Personally I would doubt that over priming in the cause of the leak, like you say there should be a valve to vent of excess pressure. However if you have primed with 200g of sugar that seems like and awful lot to me. I usually use 75 to 80g for a 5 gallon brew...

    Cider Recommendations for Kits

Hi All, Looking to get a cider in the FV soon and I'm looking for recommendations on decent kits for cider. I have done cider before. First one that failed to secondary ferment a tasted like water with a splash of apple juice in it, and an Autumn Blush Kit which was nice but still lacked a bit...

    Too cold outside?

As I understand it the best temp to condition and clear beer is approx 13 Degrees Celsius. (stand to be corrected). So I think moving outside to your garage or shed would be okay. I have kept all my brews out in the garage during winter periods over the past couple of years and had no...

    Priming sugar

If the barrel is already pressurised then you may find it difficult to remove the lid without first venting off that pressure via a pressure relief valve. The tap is at the bottom of the barrel and although I don't use these personally, I would expect gravity to do the job of emptying the...

    Brew Day One

Spoon will be fine in future, just reverse the stirring directions a few times. Give at least 24 hours before looking for signs of fermentation. Depending on temperature it could take a few days to start. All will be fine, just allow time for things to happen. Keep us posted

    Dme kit ..tasting 'thin'

+1 for give it time. :thumb: I did a Muntons Smugglers brew and after 3 weeks in the keg it tasted foul, so bad I spat it out and thought the whole lot had gone off  . 3 weeks later the taste had totally change and continued to improved. Cracking brew BTW.

    Pitching Rate

Thanks Guys, I'll be sure to count out my 15 billion yeast cells in my next brew..... Or maybe I'll stick to the single 12g packet.

    Pitching Rate

Hi All, Just been looking at some info on Safale S04 yeast and notice that on one description for the yeast it gives a "Pitching rate of 50g/hl to 80g/hl" What does this mean ? :hmm:

    flat IPA?

I had a cider that failed to prime about 18 months ago, you could see the sugar sat in the bottom of the bottle and it was flat as a witches t*t. I slowly drank it over a period of a few months but by the time I got to the last few bottles we had mild carbonation and a few bubbles in it. All...

    muntons gold

I have done two Muntons Gold kits, although the beer range. I did both Smugglers and Old Conkerwood and both were excellent. If you can keep you paws of them for a while  they really seem to mature well with age. The smugglers was lovely by the time I got to the last few pints...
