    First attempt at a WOW

Well it's day seven and the brown swamp water has slowed it's evil gurgle to approx once every 2 minutes. Today I think I will give it its first racking and check the SG. Then top up with apple juice and sit back and wait a week to see what happens next. As Her indoors quite likes wine with a...

    Buying some Fosters

Crikey mates, Even us Aussies wont drink that muck. Incidentally we have a lot of gold beers here. The gold represents the fact that it is a mid strength beer, usually around 3.8% abv. F-s-ters is even worse than Kiwi beer and thats baddddd.

Vodka or Gin For Christmas Presents

Just a couple of quick notes. For those considering using coffee filters to filter your infused grog,,,,,foget it , they clog up almost immediately. I have found the best thing is to use a few layers of pre wetted kitchen paper towels to be the best method. I start by filtering through one...

    First attempt at a WOW

Just a quick update. Day 4 and things have slowed considerably and a thick sediment is forming on the bottom of the DJ. still working away quite merrily but looks like a large bottle of dirty puddle water.

    First attempt at a WOW

Hi Folks. Just to say I started my first WOW brew yesterday afternoon. Just can't believe how quickly the fermentation process began. I put all the ingredients in to my spare DJ and as I had used cold water to dissolve the sugar I pitched the champagne yeast straight away. About an hour later...

    Quick question from Oz

Thanks for your advice, I will do as you suggest tho moving the wine to a cooler place is near on impossible in the tropics. The coolest place I have is in my garage and the temp is around 22 deg at night and about 32 deg during the day. LOL the price we pay for living in paradise. :hat:

Vodka or Gin For Christmas Presents

If it helps, I find that when I make fruit liquers I don't use any added sugar or syrup during the macerating process. This makes it a lot easier to filter. I then taste and sweeten with simple syrup to my liking. Hope that helps. Cheers Big Al

    Quick question from Oz

Hello fellow wine makers. Having just visited my local home brew shop I was very lucky to score free of charge ( apparently the enzime pkt was out of date ) a vinbrite filter kit. Was very happy to take it off their hands. I have just racked my gallon of pawpaw wine and added 1x camden tablet...

    A little guidance needed please

Just a couple of quick questions I could use your advice on. I am about to rack off two x one gallon demijons. Is it advisable to use a crushed campden tablet in each/ and would I do this before or after racking? if before, how long should I wait before racking. Any advice will be greatly...

    passion fruit

Many years ago, my Dad, God rest his soul, used to make among other things a sparkling passion fruit wine. To my mind this was the best wine I have ever tasted. It is my intention, when my wine making skills improve, to try and emulate this as I live where passion fruit grows like a weed. We...
