Can I rescue an ale by blending it with another?

I've seen a number versions of formulations, one example is a Landlord recipe, that use a tiny amount [1-2%] of black malt, possibly to slightly darken the colour? I'm not sufficiently knowledgeable to be able to guess how a recipe will work out. I was hoping that brewing software would give me...

Supermarkets recall frozen vegetables over listeria fears.

chips, mushy peas and ale cannot be withdrawn - they are three units of a healthy 'five a day' routine - and will be protected. there would be 'mushy pea' riots all over the region if anyone tried messing with the proper order of things!!

    Problem syphoning my brew

I'm sure that sediment won't ruin your ale. Of course you'd like to turn out a perfect product. I wouldn't be discouraged, you can treat this as a learning experience. I'm as green as you and I bet I have had and will have just as many, though different, 'learning experiences'. If I get the...

    Problem syphoning my brew

When you start to syphon it would be better to not lower the tube right to the bottom of the FV as you start. It will syphon just as well a few inches below the surface of the ale. Keep your tube at that height and spend a minute making sure the other end is right at the bottom of the receiving...

Can I rescue an ale by blending it with another?

Thanks for showing interest Zephyr. I just bottled the first go a few hours ago. I'll leave it two or three weeks before I give it a try. I sampled a little as I bottled and it seems slightly malty but generally pretty flavourless, it definitely needs bittering, according to my palate. I've got...

    Low alcohol beers

Someone gave me advice with my problem brew. Perhaps you could do the same. Brew on - but make shandies!! :cheers7:

I'm sure, given a little time to get something under way, I could come up with something. Photography is one of my pastimes, so it would be an interesting project for me. I'm new to all grain brewing but I'm very willing to give it a try. Perhaps you should start a thread 'for olde ale photos' Edd.

Can I rescue an ale by blending it with another?

I set up a calculation for the recipe where the default alpha's were 1% higher than the actual hops I had. I'm new at all this and am just beginning to get a grip on some of the finer points. This is my second all grain, I was very pleased with my first. I expect I will have much to learn as I...

Can I rescue an ale by blending it with another?

acheers. I'll get down my local home brew shop and ask if they have any rose tinted pint glasses - as recommended on the tintynet - a great accessory for beginner and expert alike to tweak up those less than perfect brews!! Shandy, now there's a thought. I think I'll give the errant brown...

    Back to brew again

Hi, Gerryjo, pleased to meet you :cheers3: Hi to you too Clint acheers. Still in the demijohn, having been racked a couple of times, the orange stuff has almost completely cleared now. It tastes very rough and will need months to condition and mature. Brewed 4th June, OG 1.100 FG 0.960 ABV 18%...

Oh yes - I'd be very interested, EddtheBrew. Would they be suitable for an all grain, one gallon brew in a bag? I'd like to give them a try if the ingredients and methods aren't obscure.

Can I rescue an ale by blending it with another?

I have created and brewed a brown ale with which I am not happy. It was a one gallon all grain brew in a bag. Brewed about ten days ago, OG 1048 FG 1012 - I haven't bottled it yet, it is still in a demijohn. It is very underhopped and far too dark in colour. All of this happened through me...

Many years ago I would make the odd demijohn of wine and work up 40 pints from an extract beer kit. All my gear from those days is gone and I've had to restart from scratch, arriving here after the inevitable Google searches. So... Here is my very first all grain brew. Many thanks to all who...

    Glass bottles v plastic bottles

... add to that one 500ml plastic bottle per batch to monitor carbonation... plus, one obigatory pint glass of product, just for quality control, y'know. :beer1:

Have a go at simple AG

I made a note of that, thanks GerritT. I'll need to get some Torrified Wheat but it is worth a try.

Have a go at simple AG

Getting a variety of packs of grains is relatively inexpensive in comparison to collecting a number of hop types. As far as I understand it hops can be swapped and substituted in your recipes anyway, so perhaps a great variety is not so important. Maybe just try to avoid getting similar types...

    Back to brew again

Thanks to all you guys for the welcome :cheers3: Unfortunately, the notebook in which I recorded my experiments has long gone. Beers and ales were unmodified from commercial kits and laid up in a 40 pint barrel. I have memories of a nasty tasting dandelion flower wine and a wife and...
