Behind The Curve (Documentary on Flat Earthers)

Gong: Pot Head Pixies and the flying Teapot, Radio Gnome Invisible I refer you to Bertrand Russell "If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were...

How to clean your beer glass

Dishwasher everytime for me - wasn't always the case but today's dishwashers are just so much better than the early models. Recently gave up on a less than 2 year old smeg - bought because the previous smeg had given us good service for many many years (apart from the door opening mechanism...

    Expand the Horizons

Next a standard lager, one I have not tried before and not to far out of my comfort zone. Hofbrau Original. First impression on just taking the cap of strong green grassy & sweet Diacetyl. Tasting reinforced that, the full body & sweet diacetyl made me think of Holsten Draught but there is un...

How to clean your beer glass

Totally agree with initial comments on how important clean glass is but take issue with Mr Coors cleaning methodology. It might be ok in a laboratory environment for a single glass but those hedgehog cleaners are a nightmare in the real world spreading gunge & bacteria from one glass to the...

    Expand the Horizons

I thought in these locked down days I would expand my horizons a little and try Virgin Wines Beer Box - No this is not an advert. The idea is to try beers I would not normally buy either in the pub or supermarket. (Occasionally I do get a rush of blood and in the supermarket and slip a bottle...

Has Anyone Noticed that the beer in a keg seems to evaporate?

    Grainfather Reviews

Water heater a good idea - mine also produces boiling water to scald fermenter & conditioning tank/keg/cask call it what you will. I did use the counterflow but changed to an immersion coil mostly because I can see how clean that is and I can't on the counterflow. I find it just as effective...

    Grainfather Reviews

Had a GF for a while now, current GFB0095 is currently fermenting. Good system but could be improved with a conical bottom and revised bottom & top plates. The silicon seals on the top and bottom plate are a pain & simply don't work. I would prefer a larger diameter bottom plate that does not...

    Why are hydrometer so small?

I left in 2011 Alton had expanded somewhat in the 20 something years we were there. Wasn't the nice rural market town anymore.

    Why are hydrometer so small?

Some history ancient and modern. Alton in Hampshire, or more specifically Baverstock's Brewery on Turk street may be regarded as the home of scientific brewing being the place first recorded as using a thermometer and saccharometer to monitor fermentation. (Thermometer is recorded as being...

    Why are hydrometer so small?

You can get much larger certified saccharometers but on the down side they are expensive and need a larger jar hence more wastage. On the plus side they are much easier to use than refractometer and accurate. I'm more interested in the OG than the AG - go along with the school of thought that...

Graham Wheelers Adnams Broadside, anyone brewed it?

sounds promising - what temp did you ferment at?

Graham Wheelers Adnams Broadside, anyone brewed it?

I started a copy of GW recipe some time ago but much modified it over time. I was aiming at something similar to the draught rather than bottle version. Although my preference is for the bottle version its too strong for more than a pint. I ended up with target 23 litres @1040 Simpsons...

Anybody tried spent grains in a wormery? What with the council tip closed I have a growing stock of spent grain. Don't have a compost heap, no real place for one.

    Brewly 30L Conical Cooling Fermenter

It doesn't need a water supply, it has its own reservoir, its this that's cooled and recirculated through external pipework, this is this morning brew pitched at about 27 now sitting at 22 C. The copper coils are just below the handles concealed under the three large jubilee clips which are...
