Equipment For Sale Grainfather S40 Including Cooling Coil

It was a knee Jerk purchase when I thought my G30 had died. It hadn't. I now clean it with pickling vinegar after each brew to clean off any scale build up. So the S40 became surplus. Did think it would be handy for the larger capacity and did try this once, but mostly it sits there looking...

    Nightmare on Brew Day

OK - after much soaking in white vinegar & elbow grease the GF bottom is carbonate free. Tested and it doesn't trip out, so that as Agentgonzo & Slid suggested is the cause, so thank you for that. Which in turn raises the question how do you keep the bottom carbonate free on a routine basis...

    Nightmare on Brew Day

on the boiler there was a leak in the vicinity of the thermowell - no visible hole and it only leaked when boiling or near boiling. On the grainfather itself I have just looked & tested- no water visible in electrics and it merrily boiled a couple of inches, topped up to 15 litres and it bombed...

    Nightmare on Brew Day

OK I know it's Friday the 13th. A few weeks ago my Grainfather boiler started to trip out. Long story short, it had developed a pin hole somewhere & water was leaking from tank to the electronics below. Today I was brewing a pale ale. Mash went OK sparge went ok, set to 100 - went up to 92...

    Overrated beers

Not on topic - apologies. People have mentioned that Coors lost Bass's yeast. This interests me not least because I used to live in Alton not far from what was the Courage Brewery which became Bass which became Coors which closed and once worked for Watney's, in pycp (pure yeast culture...

    Recirculate during mash?

I use grainfather on full bore. If you can get the seals to properly seal and use the additional overflow filter you don't have a problem with grain in boil. Most of the time if you have the level right it stops overflowing after a while anyway, although this varies brew to brew malt batch to...

    German drinking songs LP

Carmina Burana was partly a collection of german drinking songs, something from that would surely suit an Imperial Stout, Were diu werlt alle min perhaps.
