    Best Beer Podcast...?

Thanks all. The interview with John Palmer about the latest edition of "How To Brew" -- is quite good. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/how-to-brew-fourth-edition-john-palmer-beersmith-podcast/id398500515?i=1000385627123&mt=2

    1L bottles ?

Possible. I've had four of them crack on me in two different batches and they weren't badly brewed overprimed plonks. For the last one I released pressure from them as a precaution. When I complained to the manufacturer they assured me the bottles were good for 4 bar and sent me two new...

    What did you brew today?

Belgian Blonde. I hope she behaves. Malt Miller recipe kit, with Aurora and Styrian. Fortified it with 300g candi sugar. First time using my new 25 litre pan! Used WLP510, but might have killed it by pitching too early. Repitched with wyeast American ale in the morning.

    1L bottles ?

Hi all -- I'm looking for a good lead on good quality and affordable one litre swing top bottles. I've ordered and used the following one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NRRYPWW/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 But the quality is questionable. According to the manufacturer they can...

    Hoppy 8 gallon brew kettle

I recently ordered this one -- http://www.empiresuppliesonline.co.uk/stainless-steel-stock-pot-with-lid---25-litre-4446-p.asp Discounted from £109 to £39 it's the cheapest 25 Litre pan with induction that I've seen. Santa might agree to this while stocks last.

A bit nervous too... mine turned out quite a lemon IPA and please don't mix in the yeast!

    Orval ?

    Interesting. Thank you.

    Orval ?

So what does the second yeast do? How can there be any sugar left after two weeks?

    Orval ?

Thank you -- very interesting. Do you add the 500g sugar together with the second yeast after 2 weeks?

    Orval ?

Hi all, can anyone recommend a good Orval clone recipe -- anyone have experience making it?

    Golden syrup.

I've used golden syrup for priming. Works well.

    Toasted Oat English IPA

Looks good. I added both toasted and "plain" oats to my black cardamom porter -- have a smooth and biscuity flavour that took the edge off sharp flavours.

    Home geek tip

Yes, fair point. That's probably cheaper. I just had bungs. With the water coolers, there's already a hole in the lid bigger than the grommet -- but for simple 5L bottles grommets are probably a better idea.

    Home geek tip

Update -- a kindly coffee place in the British Library gave me these water coolers. They make even better fermenters than the water bottles -- here racking the cider.

increasing ABV after fermentation has started?

I want to make a barley wine soon -- and you need to get your OG up to 1090 range, which involves adding about 1 kg of honey to 20L or so.

increasing ABV after fermentation has started?

It will have a thicker and slightly sweeter flavour. Not all sugars in honey ferment. Also, you'll retain some of the honey aroma.

Mine is in the post -- I hope all bottles will get time to condition properly before judging. I don't even know if it's good yet !!

Or honey - 500g will give it a kick

    Make marmite from yeast slush

We'll see how it progresses. From what I understand Marmite have positioned their one and only factory in the midlands in Burton to be in close proximity to beer brewers. It seems that they use all and any yeast slushes...
