Best way to add coffee or vanilla to a stout

Morning all. I am about to start my 3rd stout kit (Brewmaker Irish stout), the previous 2 being Coopers to which I added licorice. This time I would like to experiment with coffee and/or vanilla but I am not sure how best to add them. With the licorice I added sticks to the malt as it was...

    Lager beer elderflower hybrid

just got back from holiday (well, yesterday) and I have been dying to try this beer which I put outside a bit earlier than I normally do but didnt want to leave it in the house while I was away 2 weeks. As mentioned earlier this is very dark for a lager but I opened the first bottle to a very...

    Lager beer elderflower hybrid

Most interested to hear how these work out. I too have just bottled a Lager to which I added some Elderflower cordial my wife had just made. The cordial/syrup was a recipe with lemons and oranges and sugar of course and I added 750ml. The colour of the lager was a bit orange which surprised...

    Trouble with 'pitching' temperature

Hi there, started a new lager kit last night but really struggled to get the temp down in my FV. I had to go to bed so eventually pitched at 26 degree (instructions said 18-21), anyone know what the impact of this might be? cheers

    Conditioning in shed

Hi Replay I had this same issue. My shed has windows on one side and I noticed a few days where temps were getting very high recently. What I did was put the bottles in a sturdy storage box (open topped) and put them behind my shed where it is always shady so much cooler. I then covered the...

    Erupting Coopers Stout

Well, I got my 2nd Coopers Stout on at the weekend. My word that kit can ferment can it not? To the kit I added: 500g Muntons Dark Spray Malt 500g Muntons Extra Dark Spray Malt 300g Dark Muscavado sugar 2x 10g licorice sticks a tea of fennel and caraway and 2x star anise in the boil...

Anyone ever used a BrewBarrel brewing kit

You are right, I was attracted because it was shiney and a good idea. When my brain kicked in it spotted how expensive it was, ah well.

    Coopers Canadian Blonde

I recently did this. I added a SAAZ hop tea about 4 days before bottling and I think it is a very nice brew with stronger taste than I normally go for (lager drinker). I guess ale drinkers might find it a bit light but I added 5 large tea bags and think that would be enough. Enjoy it.

Anyone ever used a BrewBarrel brewing kit

I like the idea of being left with my homebrew in a keg which would fit in the fridge. Anyone tried one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00P17OFI0/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Should I agitate the bottles during conditioning?

Hi. I have recently bottled my Cooper Light Golden Lager and it is sitting in the house for a couple of weeks before going into the shed. I regularly look at the bottles and I want to see something happening but I dont. I know that there is something happening and I maybe shouldnt worry...

Brewing at a lower temp - does it affect the fermentation period?

Thanks for the advice guys. Might try a crash cool before I bottle - what temp and how long are 2 questions that spring to mind :wha: GK this is a Wilko lager kit, I have only done kits so far. I'm going to take the second reading tonight and see where to go from there. Will let you know.

Brewing at a lower temp - does it affect the fermentation period?

Hi GrizzlyKolsch I had an FV of between 1006 & 1008 in mind to get an abv around 4.5+ My main concern with this brew was that it is nowhere near as clear as previous ones and I suspect that is down to temp. Also, with previous brews I would bottle after 2 weeks (and constant FG levels) but I...

Brewing at a lower temp - does it affect the fermentation period?

Hi I have had a Wilko Light Golden Lager in the FV for just over a week now and when I took the first hydro reading (since OG) I was a bit disappointed to see that the beer was nowhere near as clear as I had experienced in my previous 2 brews. Also, there where lots of little brown floaters...

    Wilko light golden lager

Cheers pms. I would normally brew shorter (he says, an expert after 3 brews :nah:) but i wasnt sure it was right this time. I am aiming for a light summer lager to sup by the bucket load as I frazzle the burgers on the barby. I will add the hops to get extra aroma/flavour and hope the...

    Wilko light golden lager

I've just put this on. After a Canadian Blonde, which was much more like ale than expected, I have brewed this to 22 ltr to get a lager taste/thinness but I still want some flavour. I used 1kg brewing sugar and 500g Muntons light spray malt. Had an SG of 1.042 Question is, should I add a dry...

Newbie going attempt Canadian blonde advice please

Hi. I did this recently, have a look at the stuff I added. http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=51677 I thought this was going to be almost Lager but it most definitely is not and I have ended up with a lot of flavour. The yeast has imparted a Wiess beer taste and although it...
