Hi folks I am planning to get my Cooper Wheat beer on the go shortly and want to make a beer that tastes as much like Hoegarten as possible. I believe one of the ingredients that would help is bitter orange peel but I can only find dried orange peel at a reasonable price. Does anyone know...

Best Beer Kits you have brewed

Sorry Wheazy, been a tad busy. I have added muscavado sugar each time (250g) and either strong coffee or liquorice and would recommend them all. However I have never brewed it as intended so its difficult to know how much better/worse it might be. I defo needed a blow-off tube so get that...

Best Beer Kits you have brewed

I promise to follow your advise re the Y AIPA and hope you will take the plunge re the Coopers Stout. It is a very nice pint and if like me you don't go for the strong stuff it is a good session beer :drink:. Ive done another stout (my 3rd) which should be perfect for xmas but this one was with...

Best Beer Kits you have brewed

I'm glad it not just me. Been a lager drinker for 35 years but since taking up home brewing my taste is changing. The best kit I have made was the Coopers Stout with liquorice, done twice now but I have also fallen for BrewDog IPA and will be getting an IPA on in the new years, probably Youngs AIPA

    Promote your LHBS!

I've visited 2 HBS, my nearest being in Bedford - http://www.thehappybrewer.com/ Very helpful and decent amount of stock, they are also good online. 4/5 I also visited a store in Cambridge recently as I was in the area. Although it is not their main business they were really helpful and very...

Can I use a pressure barrel for Cider

I have never used a barrel but when I bought a Youngs premium cider - Strawberry and Lime recently I decided that a barrel would be ideal. However I have been trying to find out the best way to use a barrel (do I add CO2, how much, when etc) and have read that, in fact, a barrel is a bad idea...

Youngs premium cider - Strawberry and Lime

I know, I know, but it is for my daughter, honest. I wanted to get my eldest daughter involved and this seemed the ideal way. I bought the kit from Cutlacks in Cambridge (they have a very good selection of HB and probably need local support to keep it up) and got it on, on Saturday. Used...

    Which Wheat beer kit

Hi all. I am looking to put a wheat beer kit on shortly and would welcome recommendations. Ideally it would look and taste like Hoegarden so the kit might include bitter orange and coriander or maybe I have to buy these separately. Who has made a kit and would recommend it? thanks in advance.

    Coopers Stout or Irish stout?!

Hi MonkeyM I recommend the Coopers Stout, here's one I made earlier: http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=49800 If you want to bump up your ABV you have to increase you sugar content. Easiest way is to add brewing sugar and for most kits I have made you need around 1kg to get...

Best way to add coffee or vanilla to a stout

Cheers guys. My plan is to add vanilla pod (split) to the malt/sugar in the pot and leave in the FV throughout. I did this last night but don't expect lots of vanilla flavour, hopefully just a hint. I will make a strong coffee brew and add this to the fv a day or so before bottling...
