    Big IBU opps

Well, in for a penny as they say. It's now in the FV..this should be interesting to say the least.

    Big IBU opps

Brewed a black IPA today, but had a little mishap. Looks like I will have something that will come out at 122 IBU..Shoooot! The wort is cooling down over night so I'm scratching my head as to what to do...add it to another wort boil and get two 23ltr batches or go for a ridiculously high IBU...

    What are you drinking tonight.

Snaffled myself a couple of bottles of beers from under the bar this afternoon, both from local brewers . Gert Lush 6.3% A cloudy fruity IPA from Pipeline brewery. Also have a couple of bottles left from a case of Driller 5.1% IPA from Granite Rock Brewery. Hansome..!!

    Back to brewing

Yes, tourist season is 6-7 weeks of mayhem. But, good for local traders though. So onto my next brew, an English Black IPA, then will set my sights on a lager. Just found 200g of Saaz hops (4.7 AA%) in my kit box so will be looking to use these in the larger. May need to ask as I've not used...

    Back to brewing

Hi Brew dudes!!! After working 7 days a week and way too many hours a day in the diner this summer, the tourists have all but sodded off, so less hours to work which means I'm now able to plan a brew day. Thinking of a Black IPA kind of like St Austell's Proper black. Has anyone tried this style?

    Florida Weisse

Just opened a 330ml tin of the above brew, a hazy raspberry sour. New had a sour beer before, or have I ever had a raspberry beer before. I'll I can say it that I'll never try a sour beer again, it's rank, or a raspberry beer again, that's just wrong too. Above all, I will never again put a sour...

I started to degass my Apple and red grape yesterday with @DavieC style wand. I thought it would be good to go after 14 days, however; after degassing I took a hydrometer reading and oops...it's still at 1.020....have I broken it?

The Range, brew your own IPA kit

Well, I had to nip back to the Range yesterday to pick up 1kg of brew sugar which the pack required and now it's bubbling away nicely. The instructions might be a bit misleading for the novice brewer, i.e. no mention of hydrometer reading ( I took one which came out at 1.042).

The Range, brew your own IPA kit

Has anyone tried the Range, make your own beer - IPA kit? From what I can see it's 2.2 kg of malt extract, with some yeast and some Apollo and Columbus hops. I'm going to give it a go, and see what happens. If it's half drinkable I might grab another pouch and see if it can be pimped up.

I find a few drinks help the bottling. Do you use glass wine bottles or the 500ml plastic? Let me know how the wine turns out, there is a Range store only 10 mins walk from my house.

Yes, I did a apple and mango cider that was really insane. BTW just taken a bottle of the apple and red grape out of the fridge and it taste really good. The wife is really impressed. I back sweetened it with 1 click of sweetener. what a lovely summery drink, not sure what the ABV is but I'm...

Yes, indeed. My v2 is in the DJ and is about 6 days into fermentation and is going well. Although, both of my wines have fermented well, they have not gone as mental as those I've seen on the video. I guess this is down to the yeast type? Neither of my wines have tried to climb out of the DJ.

Just bottled my very first Apple and Red Grape wine. Chuffed, I now have 9 500 ml plastic bottles of very nice tasting alcoholic fruit juice. I was concerned that leaving in primary for so long it would turn out too dry (as I read somewhere) but it's actually quite nice, and not bad for a first...

    Apple and Red Grape wine

Well I'm 4 days into this de-gassing by shaking the DJ malarky and I'm still getting plenty of white foam at each attempt. In general, how long does this approach take?
