What does WOW stand for. If I google it, I get World of Warcraft. Sorry for the daft question... Mike

    stc 1000 probes

Mine has type K, but that may not be true of all STC-1000's.... EDIT : This is incorrect, mine is an NTC probe.

    stc 1000 probes

This is not an endorsement, I have not bought from these chaps, but post as a reference (and because they do look good!!) TC Direct make plastic thermowell's out of PTFE which I believe is inert, so no leaching as per eskimobob's notes above. I just found them whilst wandering round...

Would this be OK for a boiler?

Yeah, cheers Kev. That has also gone through my mind, some of the American forums have shot down posters who were looking at hdpe boilers. I was thinking stainless boiler, and hdpe hlt, but still not convinced from your warning! I'm not alone in having kids, and obviously don't want anything to...

Would this be OK for a boiler?

Just a quick thanks for posting this BM, I've been looking at dv fuels as well. They are in Flintshire, or around Chester, so only about 25 miles away from me. I am a long way (in kit, and money) from being able to buy from them, but have a look round their website, I was looking at brewing...

    two PIDs one probe

Good luck with the thinking bit! I think I know where your going with your train of thought, but I don't know if it's possible, I can forsee an eventuality whereby you'll have both the heating, and cooling elements on at the same time, which is obviously not what your aiming for. Perhaps...

    stc 1000 probes

I've made a Thermowell out of some 8mm (OD) 316 Stainless, and an end cap (also 316 stainless) The probe is shoved in, with some thermal paste at the bottom, and some hellermann neoprene sleeve at the top. It looks a little weird, but it'll sit in my FV nicely. Now, just need to clear my new...

    two PIDs one probe

Yeah, your wiring 2 PID's to one probe will introduce another resistance to the circuit, I assume your wiring it in parallel, so the 2 wires from the probe go to both PID's (not that it makes a difference, wiring them in series or parallel will not work) An STC-1000 is the best way of doing...

    STC 1000 temperature controller

No, no, ignore me, I'm being a fool... I've just re-read the thread, and I've got the wrong end of the stick. Sorry, sorry!

    Cable Length

From the iet forum posts What it means is 13 amps in TOTAL from a double socket, not per plug. http://www.theiet.org/forums/forum/mess ... adid=33787

    STC 1000 temperature controller

At the risk of opening an old thread.... Can I add my bit to this that others might have overlooked in regard to the double plug/elements bit. If I have read correctly, you have 2 plugs wired through a single SSR? So, each positive wire from each plug is screwed to the same terminal of the...

    Cable Length

Andy, Initially when I read your post, it read like you were saying you could run high loads on 1.5mm cable over long distances. As an engineer, you'll know to not run a circuit without some overhead free. Apologies, I may have mis understood your meaning.

    Cable Length

Andy, A domestic ring main is 2.5mm that is correctbut it is a ring main, The clue is in the name Long cable runs like the OP enquired about is an extension, and not part of the ring main. Any fool knows that the longer the cable run, the higher the resistance. However, when a long run is...

    60ltr boiler with tesco elements

Very nice! Where'd you get the barrel from? Thanks, Mike

    Cable Length

Sorry, I am in work mode.... Your a home user, brewing in your private property, not opening up to the public. H07 RNF is probably overkill, as your using domestic plugs. Look at H05 RR, aailable from DIY shops, and a fraction of the cost. I'd still advise 2.5mm to be safer, have you guestimated...

    Cable Length

Please can you tell me the cable lengths you'll have to use, as this will affect the voltage drop along the run, then you can factor in the rise in current needed to run the kettle elements. Just using a 13 amp extension may not give you the result you expect. Running high ampage kit over a...

    Brewing belt vs Heat mat

Hi Vossy and Fubofo, Thanks for taking the time to reply, I must say, even though this is my first brew, I'm hooked on brewing it meself!! It's June, crazy, crazy weather (but, we love to complain about the weather in this country, eh!) Thanks for the input, I think a plastic box...

    Brewing belt vs Heat mat

Evening all. I've had problems with temperature recently, I'm brewing in me shed, and never thought I'd have to worry about temperature in June, I'm not allowed to bring it inside  My FV is in a box, with a blanket wrapped around it, with a hole in the top for the airlock...

    Greetings from Poynton

Hi All, Newbie from Cheshire here. Got my 1st brew on the go, I was given a kit by t'wife for my birthday (it was my suggestion!) It's a Yorkshire Bitter from master Brew. Currently, it's 1016. It was 1020 the day before yesterday, so I'm leaving it alone for a few days. I unfortunately, have...
