    Hoppy Christmas

I made this last september with a view to Xmas drinking. Not sure what to tell you really - it wasn't a brew I'll be repeating. For me, it always tasted like cough medicine or liquorice sticks. Other people who tried it didn't mind it but nobody went crazy about it. Some watered it down with...

    First attempt at Lagers

I've just bought 25kg of Pilsner malt and I'm all set to produce my first BIAB lagers. I was just wondering if there is anything different I need to consider compared to producing ales. As far as I can see I need to make a Yeast Starter a couple of days before pitching and then the Brew...

    Liquor Back after fermentation???

Thank you Both - sound advice, as always. I shall leave well alone and be content with 36 bottles rather than 44 - i probably would have just given the extra 8 away, anyway. Bottling tomorrow! Thanks again.

    Liquor Back after fermentation???

I've had an American IPA fermenting for 12 days (Gravity 1.014 from OG 1.062). Due to some problems at the end of the boil it looks like i have a huge amount of trub in the FV - I'm just about to rack to secondary and wondered if there is any problem with adding a couple of litres of water at...

    Torrefied Wheat

Afternoon All, I have just successfully posted the first lot out - it amounted to 1.85kg of Wheat and it cost £2.80 Second Class Royal Mail. The packing costs were nothing as I used Carrier Bags and Zip Locks acquired from the kitchen! If anyone is interested then I'm happy to parcel...

    Torrefied Wheat

If anyone is interested in some Torrefied Wheat then postage costs are as follows: Royal Mail Second Class. Small Parcel 2kg £2.80 Medium Parcel 2kg £4.89 I'm hoping I could make about 2kg fit in the dimensions of a Small Parcel but fear it may go to the Medium Parcel. If this makes...

    Torrefied Wheat

Can't see why not - be good if more people benefitted from my good fortune. I assume a zip lock bag inside a Jiffy Bag should do it?

    Torrefied Wheat

It was an incorrect delivery that was meant to be collected but hasn't been. Thought as much that I'd never get through it. Next question: Does anyone want some Torrefied Wheat?;-)

    Torrefied Wheat

I appear to have acquired 25kg of Crushed Terrified Wheat, however, I have absolutely no idea what to do with it. The only thing I have read is that it can be added to the mash, about 10%, to aid head retention. At my brewing rate, 25kg will last quite a time! Does anyone have any other...

    Hop Stopper Problems

Evening, I'm after some advice as I'm having problems with my Hop Stopper. I do BIAB in a 30l Burco - I fitted a ball valve and made a Hop Stopper from 15mm copper pipe that is bent around the circumference of the boiler. I drilled 2mm holes all over the underside of the pipe and it sits about...

    Fermentation Fridge

Whereabouts in the country are you? I'll nip to the Post office in the morning and find out a delivery cost. Not after much for the heater, just hope the postage won't be ridiculous. Will let you know tomorrow.

    Fermentation Fridge

If you are interested, I managed to pick up 2 60w greenhouse heaters for a cheap price the other week. Happy to sell one on for cheaper than you'll buy online. Keep meaning to list them i the 'For Sale' section…... Just wish I'd found them before I built my brew fridge!

    33l burco

Spook, sorry for the late reply as I've only just started using one - had nothing to report before! I've just done my first 2 BIAB with a 33l Burco and everything went pretty well, I think. Managed to hit SG or above and get 23 or 22l into the FV. Let me know if you have any questions etc and...

    Airlock not bubbling after 48hrs

I had this worry on my last brew - after 4 days was getting very worried. I then checked that the lid was really shut properly by working round the whole FV and pressing - a small section snapped shut so the gas must have been escaping here. As soon as I did this the airlock bubbled along...

Replacing Tap on a Baby Burco

Cheers Spook, I will have a search around tonight and post the link if I find it.

Replacing Tap on a Baby Burco

Thanks Patch, Think I may have to use this option just down to price. Did you use a plastic or brass Tank connector? And, is it necessary to use a Stainless Steel Ball valve or will a brass/chrome one suffice? Would have liked to have the option of a thread on the inside to fit a hop...

Replacing Tap on a Baby Burco

Has anybody attempted/been successful in replacing one of the old 'twist type' tap from a Baby Burco? I managed buy a boiler off Gumtree for £5 - seemed too good to turn down, really! I've removed the old tap and am left with a 1" hole (possibly 22mm but think its an inch). I've read the...

How to make a twin coil immersion chiller

Just bought the necessary bits to begin my build. Got a decent price on the copper tube - £15 for 10m from Graham's the Plumbers Merchant - thought this was quite reasonable. Will post pics when I'm in the process and, hopefully, of the finished product - imminent baby birth may derail my plans!
