    Cooling on the cheap

I was just about to ask if this was feasible! Nice one 😁

    Kveik

Yeah really frustrating! Hopefully with my next brew it'll be better. Gonna try no chill this time, just seal it up in the FV and leave it as opposed to arseing about trying to get the temp down.

First time using liquid (Kveik) yeast

Yeah I was planning to top crop but ended up missing the opportunity. Will make sure I do next time

First time using liquid (Kveik) yeast

That's what I was thinking but wanted to double check. Thanks :)

First time using liquid (Kveik) yeast

Hi everyone, hope all is well. I recently harvested some Kviek from a brew I did with dried flakes. It's in a jar in my fridge and I'm a bit unsure how to use it as I've never used liquid yeast before. I know with Kviek it's an under pitch so I'm aiming for 1/2 a teaspoon. My question is, do I...

    Kveik (After two years)

Apart from the advantage of being able to brew in the summer, which for me is what got me interested in Kviek, the other upside is speed. I'm about to start a 3rd Kveik brew after 1 disaster and the second one that seems ok so far. I'm not in a rush to drink it so is there any disadvantage to...

    Controlling fermentation temperature.

Has anyone kept their FV in a bath to maintain temp? I read in James Morton's book if you keep the FV in a bath of water at the desired temp then it should be ok.

    No boil brewing.......

Thinking of trying a no boil recipe. What would happen if you put the hops in during the mash?

    Kveik

Just come back from a week away and took a gravity reading from the FV, it had got down to 1.012. However I fear it must have got infected because the slight eggy whiff during fermentation has been replaced by quite a strong smell of what can only be described as sh!t. Back to the drawing board...

    Worried

Yeah I put some nutrient in there and pitched at 33c as per the instructions. My assumption is as you said John, it's a mix of god knows what so I'm assuming there's all sorts going off in there. Smell seems to have died down now though thankfully!

    Kveik

I have a batch of Lida kviek bubbling away at the moment and it is also kicking off a bit of an eggy pong! Did a gravity reading this morning and it's down from 1.056 to 1.030 in a little over 24 hours and it tastes ok. Wouldn't enter it in a competition but also don't want to chuck down the...

    Worried

I've got a batch of Linda going at the moment and it's definitely giving off an eggy whiff!!

    Worried

Got my first kviek brew in the fermenter and I've noticed it's kicking off a bit of a smell also! Maybe because of the high temp it ferments at or the other stuff that's in there not just the yeast??

    Mini Keg Advice

Slightly off topic but I have noticed lots of online shops not listing stuff as out of stock, you but it and then after several weeks of waiting they finally tell you "oh yeah, sorry that's out of stock". But of course they have your money now and you have to wait for ages to get it back or for...

It's one of the party star ones. Cheers for the advice :)

    Kveik

So what's the consensus on bottling then? Just leave it for longer? I have one of those 5L mini kegs with a CO2 tap thingy, would that be better for Kveik brews?

Should we put a stop to homebrew?

I've found most people are really interested when I tell them I (try to) make my own beer. Maybe it's a cultural thing? Here in Spain quite a lot of people, especially in smaller villages, make their own wine and/or liquors so it doesn't really have that moonshine reputation that it has in the...

    Sodium percarbonate..

For people using supermarket brand Oxy, is there any other ingredient listed? I picked up yesterday in my local supermarket a kilo of sodium perc for €1.75 (a bargain I thought). I was going to ask if the cheap supermarket stuff was any different to the much more expensive brew shop stuff?
